I remember that biopic of Frankie Lymon Why Do Fools Fall in Love used to be one of my favourite movies. Of course I was a kid back then so it might actually be awful.

Also, those old female pop vocals are kinda cute.

I think I love Pop music when it means simple hooky stuff and not literally "popular right now"

In the broadest sense of the term, everything that isn't traditional folk music or classical music falls under "pop music," which includes dance pop, top forty hits, as well as all subgenres of extreme metal, noise rock, or *ahem* post punk.

I mean you're right in the broadest sense but we often use the same words to mean entirely different things

For example indie as a sound vs indie as short for independent

As for who cares well I just find it fun to talk about

I still don't understand what "indie as a sound" is.

Like, "you sound like you're not on a major label?"

That sounds like it covers a lot of stuff.

To me "indie" as a sound a has come to mean fake sounding drums, melody instruments consciously aping an era, and a neutered male vocal/female vocal that sounds like Feist

And I fuckn hate it all

Something happens when we stop recording bands with at least a live take of the rhythm section. All these new songs with perfect, quantized drums make me wanna barf

I hate to say this but indie as a sound means post punk but with modern production styles

It's why a lot of "post punk revival acts" are often called indie they mean basically the same thing

It all traces back to Factory Records

fuckin' THIS, so hard.

the loss of human foundation is probably what i dislike most about modern music. the visual ocd aspect of aligning transients to grid lines on Pro Tools is killing the soul of music and almost nobody seems to realize it.

btw, one of the biggest reasons i love radiohead so much is that they openly go against this trend.

This is an old cruster song and dance

Most classic rock albums have a shit ton of artificial stuff going on and drum machines have been used on plenty of good albums

I think the problem is you're listening to bland music that uses synthetic drums

Top 40 is going to use these tools to cheaply produce hit songs and maximize profit but it doesn't have to be that way

What I think actually hurts new music is that the music itself is not worth anything anymore as its free via Internet

It's not punk to admit but it actually ends up hurting artists who made just enough to eat a lot more than established acts

It was. Mostly the girl groups. Check out the Shangri-Las especially.

There's a thread somewhere in this forum with a bunch mixes I made of yard sale 45s.

edit: I found the thread but all the links are dead.

I see the thread has turned into a semantic argument because no one has anything to contribute to the actual topic at hand.

Carry on. Let me know if I can help with anything in particular.
