God, what a pretentious asshole. Yes, Billy. It’s OUR fault if you can’t write good music anymore.

Look, stop listening about music YOU think you want to hear, and start listening to music BILLY thinks you want to hear.

That's Netphoria's problem, thinking you know your own musical taste better than Billy "Cyber Assman" Corgan!

Lol.

To be fair, I realize we are all to blame here at least a little. I don’t know why I haven’t fully checked out at this point. No one is forcing me to pay attention and yet I can’t fully look away because I guess I want Billy to suddenly wake up and either stop being a total raging asshole or produce a good album. The former was probably always a statistical impossibility but I had hope that the latter might happen since James and Jimmy are around. But then... we get this.

I’ve been listening to the new Hum album today and it’s embarrassing how much better it is than anything Billy has put out in 15 years or so. It’s so good that I feel like we don’t deserve it, since so many of us only paid minimal attention to them in the 90s because we were so far up Corgan’s butt.

I agree with you 100% on Hum. Its unreal that Downward is Heavenward didn't sell and they all just quit and got day jobs, but then again its also probably why they're still a great band and why Inlet is a great album. They get current live shows totally right too. They just rock out with their fans and have a great time.

Not only the new Hum album, don’t forget that incredible Slowdive album a couple years ago. Might be their best honestly. MBV wasn’t bad either. SP is so disappointing.

Yeah, hopefully the positive reaction to this album will get them to do a solid tour once this COVID mess ends. I'd love to see them live. Inlet is so amazingly good; it's like they took the sound they had on their earlier efforts and absolutely perfected it.

Add Ride to that list. Their two new albums (and the EP) since reforming were brilliant. So strong and played to their strengths while also incorporating new elements.

The new solo Andy Bell (from Ride, not Erasure ) album is good too.

I wouldn't say that the new Ride is brilliant, but definitely have some classic moments.

Just listening to the reissue of Wildflowers - yet another incredible late-career album.

It is unusual for artists to deliver something stunning late in their careers but it's not impossible.

Wasnt bolly mentioning that vol 2 is shoegazy? Or will it be vol 3?

If he mixed his crazy voice with e.g dub step elements..real risers, sidechaining .andgoing for a massive "drop" or invlude some real innovative electronic production - crazy shit.....man that would have been a chance...

But instead we get gummy softy cheesy dry static synthpop...

I mean the way he handled electronica on adore was great...

Korn’s not really my thing but their last album received universal acclaim.

Definitely give the new Hum a couple more spins. The songs seem pretty same-y on the surface, but they really open up once you get used to the melodies. I've listened to it more than any other album this year and it is ridiculously good. We really aren't worthy.

Failure deserves a mention. I thought the album they put out in 2018 was really solid, capable of challenging Fantastic Planet for their best album. The one they released a few years before that was good as well. I saw them live in 2018 and they were phenomenal.

He should've done an album with Timbaland.

I'd totally stopped caring about the countdowns... I don't mind more music but if so I'd like to hear something different.

Saying that I predict Cyr will be all synth / programmed. He's saving the guitar stuff for Shiny 3 and MCIS 2. (hopefully)

AHA! "(hopefully)"!
that there is your big mistake. hope.
it means you still care and, as a result, that you will be disappointed. this is guaranteed.

after all these years, you still haven't learned.

THAT IS RIGHT
I AM CALLING YOU OUT

I do care, that is the problem. You are correct. Every album, every single, every 10 second leaked clip I think "maybe *this* is when he'll go back to singing softly over some nice music". And it never happens.

What's saddest of all is that his voice was one of my favourite things to listen to. Now it's gone, seemingly for good.

So, here we go again tomorrow night - another one will hit zero. Two more new songs and another episode of the cartoon?

Seems like the hope I had that at least one of them would produce the first archives release or a Machina announcement have been squelched by the Insta live thing last week.

same, i thought/hoped it'd be a series of different SP related hype things

normally you don't really have countdowns for, like, the same exact thing. just say fuckin 'we're releasing two shitty synthpop singles every two weeks'
