Got half-way through before I realized you weren't talking about Swayze.

I don't think its fair to group Manson in with serial killers. He was a cult leader. He has more in common with Jim Jones than with Ted Bundy.

I don't think any of the murders would have happened if someone would have given him a record deal or if Terry Melcher would have returned his calls. Or if he wouldn't have tried to move into Dennis Wilson's house. He completely failed at his first chance at a studio session, recorded by Stephen Despar I think at Brian Wilson's home studio.

I have a copy of "The Family" by Ed Sanders at my folks house. I should re-read it over the holiday.

DPR is terrible but have you ever read about the toolbox killers? fuckin' terrible. they recorded an attack on one victim and when they played it in court people were vomiting and crying and jurors ran out of court. you can read the transcript but the audio has never been released and i would never listen to it

yes he was convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. you don't have to stab someone to commit murder, he was the mastermind. also they killed more people than just the Tate murders, and he might have personally done some of those.

once again fuzzy has no idea what he's talking about

edit: fuzzy said he was never charged with murder before he edited it

Oh so he might have killed some other people? Good of you to think so.

Guys definitely a creep and deserved everything he got. I'm not defending his actions in any way. It's just that some people in this thread are acting like he's one of the worst monsters that the worlds ever seen which is a bit much.

Once somebody is sufficiently monstrous, it becomes a little pointless to try to figure out exactly how monstrous that person is, and where that person ranks in the list of monsters throughout history.

"Lol, Charles Manson doesn't even rank in the top twenty worse murderous cult leaders. I've ranked every human that's ever been from most to least monstrous, and Manson isn't anywhere near the top."

This

Serial Killers are all about the evil thrill they get when they kill someone. Manson was a bad man, but the worlds seen much worse. The only reason the Manson case gets so much attention is the celebrity angles.

You said he was never charged with murder. But he was charged and convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Don't repeat bullshit you've heard on the internet when one glance at wikipedia will tell you the truth.

Yeah, fair enough. I see the point.

Some experts would suggest that there was a difference in his physiology as compared to the pure evil that you see in other serial killers though.

Serial killers actually have varied motives for their killings, yes the 'evil thrill' is a common one but it isn't inclusive of all serial killers. Other than that, I agree with this.

Serial killer's (really psychopaths, there is no 'serial killer' brain) brains are not much different than everyone else. They have underactive frontal lobes and reduced activity to shocking and negative experiences and content. Other than that there is more difference between killers than between killers and non-killers.

I'm not backtracking in any way. The edit simply properly conveys what I was originally trying to illustrate. I simply made an error regarding the legality aspect.

"he never got charged with murder" is not the same as "he was never proven to have personally murdered with his own hands"

like i said, hitler didn't kill anybody either by those standards (besides himself)

if you did not mean to say "he never got charged" then ok, but that is what you said, and is demonstrably false. somehow i believe you really thought he never was charged with murder because lots of people think that is true

Rationalize it however you like, but finding pleasure in killing people without a damn good motive is pure and utter evil. There's no other way to look at it. Even if it's a result of severe mental illness, the killer should still have enough sense to know it's wrong and get help.

I know this is your area of expertise though, and people in your field of interest always wanna look for scientific reasoning... But sometimes people are just bad and evil and people try too hard to wanna justify their behavior.
