Default Supreme Court says that DNA swab after arrest, but before conviction, is A-OK

Thoughts? Concerns?

I think dna samples should still be obtained through a court order. This will most likely be abused by the system. I don't understand why they just don't jump to retinal scans like minority report. The amount of people claiming this is no more intrusive than regular finger printing is strange.

This is following an arrest that uses probable cause, so technically there's some protection. The only problem is damn popo pretend they have probable cause all the time.

That seems like a lot of information, and would take a lot of people to actually sift through, but what do I know.

Because dna samples give more information about you than a finger print. I still think it should be court ordered. Probable cause can be a blurry line and it's not something I'd want to be decided by some shitty cop.

So, Mr. FB. We see here you have a 51% chance for getting (insert gene related sickness here) and our records show your shopping habits for food may be exacerbating the effects.

I'm sorry, but under our universal health care model, the collective needs assurance such deformities are processed out. Unless you are willing to undergo a procedure to remove the organ that's potentially in trouble, we will not be able to service you in the future.

Yeah but you guys are talking about abusing that information. Obviously that would be bad. The Court said a swab could be taken and dna used as an identifier like fingerprints. Im not ok with the info being used for anything else, or abused in any way. I would prefer it be limited to people convicted of certain crimes though, and not just anyone taken in, because like starla said-shitty cops. Im not completely comfortable with the idea, but as far as this decision Im generally ok with it.

Btw Starla, when you said intrusive I thought you were talking about the collecting of the dna sample and not the dna information itself. I think the collection method played a part in this decision, a cheek swab was deemed reasonable whereas a blood sample would not have been.

Or they can do it during amniocentesis. They can dna test before the baby is born for paternity.
