Can't believe he still can't play this... What on earth is he trying to do with the fills; they make no sense.

They make sense... They just suck ass...

Man even during 2007, even with Billys coarse vocal delivery- it was always fun to watch bootlegs from each show because the musicianship was always spot on and tight... Corgan and Chamberlin could lock into a sound pocket effortlessly. It was fantastic.

Now adays when I'm bored I'll check out a bootleg here and there its always so cringe worthy.

They have been playing that same group of songs at nearly every show since mike joined.. (The hits, cr, bwbw, Ava, etc etc), you'd think mike would figure out how to fucking play them by now? Check out cherub rock, total wreck. And what's with the drum stick going up in the air? Is he going to start doing stick twirls now?

I love how hard he's straining just on the roll in the beginning.

And why does he play on the bell so much? It's irritating as hell.

The band reportedly played Quasar, Oceania and Bullet with Butterfly Wings (taking at least 3 takes). Also they reportedly played Cherub Rock.

Exactly. And nearly the same set list each tour... It was awesome during the Zeitgeist tour because the set lists would often change from show to show... Made following the tour sort of exciting. But it was fun watching the band with Chamberlin anyways... Not so much with Mike... Hes not a very good drummer.

Thank you.

Porcelina into Behold the Nightmare was kick ass back then.

Holy fucking shit. I've defended Byrne before for his actual rhythm (he just plays like a drunken caveman) but what the actual fuck. Cherub Rock was the worst performance I've ever heard from him. How does he not understand how to play it? Like what the fuck? He just changes to a random rhythm or misses a snare hit and beats the shit out of the bells, but then will just stop hitting the bells the next time the verse comes around. The fills are terrible. It's like he's trying to make it his own. What the actual fuck, Billy? Why is this guy in your band?

And, man, after watching the 2008 performance of Porcelina and Behold, it's like it was two different bands. I enjoy this lineup (minus Mike) but man, that wasn't even that long ago.

Looking forward to Mike's "interpretation" of Porcelina. I wonder if he even bothered listening to the recording before rehearsals.

It's weird because Cherub Rock is one of the few songs where Jimmy actually plays on the bell as a part of a rhythm, during the "let me out" part. And Mike just sticks with that concept (I guess) and rapes the shit out of it for the whole song.

Ugh, what is he doing?

It's so frustrating because he clearly has technical skill. But then he cancels that out by making fucking stupid decisions in every other aspect of playing and just...goddammit.

If he could restrain himself for a whole set, things would be pretty okay. Like there's this video of him playing XYU, and while it's obviously not as good as the original, it's totally acceptable and I could live with it because he doesn't add in stuff.

Or in this version of Today:

Compared to this:
