to be honest it seems to be easier to get into them when you're 18 than when approaching middle-age... i remember seeing a show in 2002 where most everyone seemed to be under 30, and i lost a lot of interest myself in recent years in revisiting the extended discography that i collected once in a blue moon. but in 99 i was clearly obsessed.

the best way to go about it is concentrate on one album at a time, with repeated listens. even when i had become well acquainted with SY, listening to an older album for the first time would always leave me confused.

nah, there are tons of people who consider it their late career peak.

now i am yet to meet someone who loves sonic nurse as much as me. o'rourke really revitalized the band, which was really apparent when they quickly fell into playing SY-by-numbers when he left.

These days I'm a bigger fan of later years SY, basically A Thousand Leaves onwards. Agree with the above about NYC and Nurse, NYC is much better than I remembered in the 90s and Nurse is an absolute classic.

After listening to the Tool leak, I don't wanna hear Billy whine about how he can't make long tracks anymore because of fans complaining. Just a cop out answer. It has nothing to do with fans, it has to do with how he's barely able to write a decent 3 minute track anymore.

The only Boris album I listened to was Dear and I quite enjoyed it.
