i’d like to contribute to this thread but my dad wouldn’t let me listen to anything like marilyn manson when i lived in his house, and i just can’t bring myself to wade into this music as a middle-aged man
How did all your parents let you worship satan so much?? |

Didn't really listen to any Manson thing until I was at least old enough to drive & purchase without a parent being around or whatever, but in earlier days my aunt would bring me to the local record store occasionally, upon which I'd aquire those first few Eminem albums - though even then the record store employees would intervene to ensure I was getting the censored versions. A young boi just can't win!

I think Holy Wood would be a better album if the singles were left off and it was shortened to about 10 tracks.

Yeah, Holy Wood is way long and bloated, much like Manson himself these days

Also, it's all mostly nostalgia at this point, so don't feel like you're missing out on anything.

My parents didn't care what kind of Satanic profanities were in the music, but if there was a drum kit rather than timpani then my father was opposed to me listening to it because it was a waste of my musical education and if there is one thing the old man hates, it's not getting his money's worth.
Marilyn Manson, Cannibal Corpse, Smashing Pumpkins, Duke Ellington = not real music. |

Last night I dreamed that Smells Like Children was getting some deluxe reissue treatment, with the recalled promo tracks and samples reinstated, never-before heard TR remixes, and a live soundboard featuring some nonexistent drummer named "Windex the Kraken" who "came on board for a few shows after Lucas but before Ginger, but sucked so they kicked him out."
My one-time love for this band and all the lunacy it represented still haunts my subconscious, it seems. |

I think it's a bit silly to say that Antichrist doesn't matter. Especially since, from a larger perspective, The Pale Emperor doesn't really matter because nobody bought it and it didn't pierce through the pop culture bubble in any meaningful way.

I think it's unfair to say that Pale Emperor didn't matter. It was a great return to form and his best in years. It sold pretty well, got lots of good reviews, and I recall lots of people talking about it at the time. |

I didn't really listen to Antichrist as much as some of his other records but from memory it measures up pretty well (and I think is generally regarded as his defining record) - Irresponsible Hate Anthem has a killer riff, there's a couple pretty good tunes through the middle, but the end of the album is the goods. The Reflecting God is as close as MM came to being as good as NIN, and The Man That You Fear is one of the rare occasions on which he navigated doing something resembling a balled really well.
