Red face Live Show USB

Quote:
Package Includes:
Each USB Drive contains audio recordings of the performance. The drive is loaded with a User Dashboard that contains the audio player. USB Drives will be shipped 7-10 business days after the performance date.
So does "User Dashboard" mean that I can't do whatever I want with the audio recordings, like, I don't know, burn them to CD or put them on my iPod? The name brings to mind the Sony audio player/rootkit that wouldn't let you rip your legally-purchased music from your CD to your computer to listen to it wherever you want, and gave your computer a virus to boot.

And please, excuse me if I'm completely misunderstanding, or if this has already been bitched about elsewhere.

If they are just mp3s, it's just a matter of time until someone figures out where they are. Shouldn't be too hard.

no the flash player on the local html page just points to a local subdirectory on the usb for the content. you can copy the mp3s right off the usb.

I just get worried when I see something that isn't straightforward. Something along the lines of

would have inspired more confidence. I'll just have to wait for someone else to buy one and tell us all how great/crappy it is.

actually it's 7 days this wednesday... I don't think people have actually received it by mail, or at least no one stepped up claiming they did

I keep checking on what.cd for it, because 192 is postable within their rules. If there's a leak, it'll be there.

With our luck every song will be slowed down by 50% anyways.

I posted this in the other thread but...

There's no such thing as "impossible encryption" because of the "analog loophole".

You just play it and record it with any number of free sound recorders.

Right, but if a band's going out of their way to complicate things, I don't like it. Period.

No, everyone who got the USB is keeping it to themselves, it's almost like not having internet again...

i think that the user dashboard is just an interface for people who buy the usb stick but have no idea how to play an mp3 file, or how to access the online extras.

I bought a USB lanyard at the Vegas show last Saturday and promptly have been sharing the MP3s with friends and family - guess I need to make a new thread for this, but for those of you that are reading - a YSI link is below. I just assumed these were being widely shared, but I guess not?!

The USB key on the lanyard has a bunch of random stuff on there in addition to the MP3's - but all of the graphics, etc are just there to make a .html file on there functional. When it's double-clicked, it fires up your browser and takes you to a HTML based local page where you can listen to the MP3s in this weird little player, and has links to their website, store, SPRC, etc. There's also a place where Kerry said they have the functionality to upload more content. He alluded to the fact that they might upload soundcheck songs, interviews from that day, or photos from the concert. I'm not holding my breath on that, but it'd be cool if it does pan out.

The drive was $25 - but if you signed up for the text messaging portion of the SPRC, then you got a bounceback text that got you $5 off, knocking it down to $20. I figured that was worth it - none of the shirts did anything for me, so I had a pre-allotted merch budget to blow on SOMETHING.

You're all quite welcome. I just assumed these were already floating around out there... feel free to share that YSI link freely.

Also, to absolve the guilt, let's all be sure to buy the re-issues, mmmk? Kinda feel like I'm shafting the band by sharing for some reason - but maybe it's just b/c apparently NOBODY else is doing this?!
