Default Imagine if MTAE was the first album after the Pumps reunion

You wait 7 years for them to reunite and the first thing you hear is a bad ripoff of Space Jam and one clapping hand.

makes Zeitgeist seem pretty ok huh

no Zeitgeist was stil pretty damn disappointing man. I actually would have been more excited to hear "Tiberius" (the one great song on MTAE) than the shitty production and vocals on doomsday clock.

Tiberius is the one and only good track on MTAE. I really wanted to hear them perform it live with Jimmy on drums during the SP/Manson tour. Sadly, we got just One And All, Drum + Fife, and Run2Me... disappointing. Why did he chose the worst songs from MTAE to play is beyond me.

but goddamn the songwriting is so bad. i mean even stuff like Today that was written to be a pop single had more of a compelling arrangement than this

It's literally not, The Viper sounds nothing like the One and All riff. Also One and All is garbage

One and All is one of those songs that would've been OK if I heard it on the radio in passing circa 2003.

Z and MTAE are the two best post-reunion albums. Suck it.

Thing is, they all are mediocre in their own way, but at least Oceania sounds like a real album from an actual band; the others sound like studio projects. Because they are.

Not saying the "band" that made Oceania was very good, but that's a different argument.

"Studio projects" probably isn't the best term, but you know what I mean, presumably.

I'd agree with this. Zeigiest and Teargarden, which were basically Billy working with a drummer, got some of the worst reviews of his career. Oceania, which was made by a whole band, was seen as a somewhat return to form. It was certainly not a perfect album by any means, but Corgan just needs to accept that his ideas work better when filtered through other people. After the (relative) success of Oceania, I still don't understand why he went back to making Monuments the same way he made Teargarden (Billy + Friends).

I like MTAE more than Zeitgeist but they both still suck.

One and All is an okay song, but okay might as well be suck.

It kind of sounds a bit like a Zeitgeist song, except without the dreaded B0lly choir.

Actually it sounds a lot like one of those songs that was only played live, like As Rome Burns.

I'd probably have been more into the album if it was released in 2007, except without the REALLY bad tracks like Being Beige, Run to Me and the one with the "never been kissed" lyric.

Heck I think I'd have enjoyed Oceania more as well.

I don't really know what I'm saying and frankly any amount of thought on post-reunion material is too much.

I suppose though that there's about an album's worth of all the post-reiunion material, including live only songs, and it would probably be decent.

But only decent.

Still think a few tracks on Teargarden were worth the listen partly just for the novelty of something like Stich in Time but then stuff like the solo on Song for a Son actually burns the lies of your soul in a way that nothing on ZG did

Playlist of a combo of best Teargarden and best Oash might be an enjoyable listen for me once a year

Everything else sucks donkey balls ESPECIALLY mtae that actually far exceeded my expectations of suck

It sounds soooo much better with Jimmy's feel for the beat. It could be a Machina track if it were heavier and ironic.

You might be onto something here. Maybe that's why Oceania sounds so neutered.
