Literally every album since Machina been preceded by people from the inner circle saying "Billy is writing the best music ever" publicly. The causal fan might fall for that shit. But not the likes of us!

if left to his own devices there's too much scorpions and cock rock influence running amok. jeff only reinforces that influence since he likes the same stuff.

And too many weird lyrics like "I will be special k" that literally make no sense and ruin a perfectly good song that might have become a classic

I’m mourning the loss of Darcy by listening to the only good sp2 reunion album, Oceania. Ironic, huh?

You'd imagine Billy would do everything in his power to make this an actual reunion with the original lineup. If they're planning for a summer tour, they'll all be in their 50s by then. It's either gonna happen now or it won't happen (or you'll get a watered down version in about ten years with focus on softer, slower stuff). Billy's been through this all before with the Zeitgeist campaign and interest towards SP was on a whole nother level then compared to now. Now that the "back to basics solo album with a name-producer" attempt proved to be a flop for him, this is literally his last card to play. You'd think the vast majority of potential ticket buyers for a Pumpkins tour in 2018 consists of people in their 30s at least. They're not gonna buy this shit after Z, Teargarden, Oceania, Monuments etc.

A lot of people here (me included) have stuck around for what is now close to 20 years waiting for Billy to get his shit together, but you can only be burned so many times. I'll wait till the official announcement comes out, but considering that the now-famous instagram post implied that even James was just a visitor, I'm dangerously close to saying fuck this guy for good.

Unless it's Melissa on bass and the band is credited as Glass and the Machines of God

not at all the reason. just don't jump on the "reunion sell out tour" if you cannot actually reunite.
nobody was angry when JC was there for a tour (whenever, the double tour with Manson) and Iha and Darcy weren't. it just seems that he cannot leave anything out of the complete embarrassment package. he'll beat the "brand" SP to death 5 more times. which we are all very much used to. what pisses me off is not "no Darcy" but dropping her name over and over again the past 2 years and then go for the term "reunion" or "original" when it in fact cannot (and for multiple reasons should not) happen.

Strawdingle still cracks me up. Did she try out various "hip kids lingo" terms before describing the music of 50 year olds while being almost 40 herself as "killer"? bad news for you, strawdingle. killer is about as hip as these studio hashtags are. next time, try "rips ass".

My name is Annie-dog. I've been with Billy and D'arcy. The good Billy is in the Lodge and he can't leave. Write it in your nexus.

Word up.

Heaven forbid they actually make concessions for D'arcy's, and provide support so she can participate.

September 2017:

"Billy Corgan was midway through recording the Smashing Pumpkins' follow-up to their 2014 LP Monuments to an Elegy when he was hit with a strange sensation. "I felt like I had exhausted the idea [of the band] on my own," he says. "That doesn't mean I haven't had help, but I think my interest in working on just the name Smashing Pumpkins is not as interesting to me without original people involved. It doesn't seem to have the same resonant energy for me. I like to think that if I do any work in the future it would be with them, if possible." "

The article is back online.

It's disappointing news for sure. I'd love to see Melissa back on bass with the band, but I have doubts about that too.

it's weird this popped up so quickly after james visited the studio. maybe the LA sessions were supposed to be full band at some point but it fell through and they just decided thay can't deal with it all over again. and not to play devil's advocate, but what if d'arcy is just unable to play and delusional about it? all we know about her past 20 years is that she did lots of drugs, had some bad plastic surgeries and is very into horses. playing a stadium/festival tour is serious bizz. if i were them i would probably call it off, but i guess studio time is expensive and they need to make the money back somehow. all in all, it went south fast.

The article was online for like 40 minutes when Darcy posted last night for the first time in months... Someone close to the band/her surely saw it and contacted them!

Consequence of Sound posted about it. So it's pretty much confirmed now that D'arcy is out. "SP Camp" must be really ruthless, if she needed some help to get back in the right frame of mind they could have easily gotten her the help. He has no problem literally wasting millions on some stupid wrestling company that will go nowhere so why not help an old friend?
