This dude is a bit of a pretentious douche.

Were BWBW and 1979 actually released as a double A-side?

These types of video are a cancer on youtube. What used to be vlogs have turned into a whole genre of shower thoughts presented as explanations by someone with a British accent, probably fake, over a video montage. The comments under those video are painful, they'll say "thanks I always wondered why I liked that song so much!", and it's all just pontification, made up bullshit.

Question

After the nostalgia tour of the Smashing Pumpkins and the bad record sales of today's SP releases:

Could it be that Corgan retires -at least with his band project- when he gets sixty?

Dude sounds bitter. He probably assumed hooking up with JC and Iha would bring attention back to the new music, but it simply wasn't to be.

The guy sounds like Paul Joseph Watson.

Corgan needs time to find a new place for his tea shop.
But mostly time and money to buy the World Wrestling Entertainment.

That's why he already tries to make as much money now as possible by touring at only bigger venues.

The video was nice; I could've done without the Billy/Pumpkins jabs at the end though.

The one thing literally everyone misses the point on is major 7th chords. It literally starts and ends with that. This song was Billy channeling his inner Carpenters, and stealing riffs from Dennis.

Song ends on a straight major Eb

I meant the bulk of the song haha, or at least the reason everyone feels so "nostalgic" about it.

i love a major 7th just as much as the next guy, but it's the "ooh oohs," the odd-sounding drum machine, the ligher, sunnier nature of the production, that give me those 90s FEELS when i'm jammin '79

& yeah, the straight Eb, my friend used to laugh at how abrupt & "matter of fact" that was. It's kinda perfect though, a maj7 ending woulda probably been a little too dramatic/syrupy or something

I think so too. he's a father now, but I doubt that will really change things.

it would be the respectful thing to do (aka he's not doing it)

1979 is interesting because we associate it with this bright 90s nostalgia thing, but the song is actually about 80s adolescent nostalgia and gives a big sonic nod to post punk/new wave. I think Billy said the specific moment he wrote the song around was sitting in his car at a traffic light with rain pouring down

If the song wasn't named after a year that is decades past, I'd hardly think it was nostalgic. The electronic drumming was contemporary for the time, alt rock was on the decline. 1979 was a precursor to Adore, which abandoned alt rock entirely, hence it sounds like Perfect.

Adore is just like their other albums with a more different aesthetic. It definitely did not "abandon" alt rock lmao. The sound you are referring to comes mostly from post punk and goth which were precursors to alternative music. 1979 is a call back to Joy Division
