I will probably be regret this... I made an SP zine
I've been writing about Smashing Pumpkins for various publications for pretty-much a decade now, and wanted to collect some of my writing in a Zine to mark the Shiny and Oh, So Bright London show. Then I thought I might reach out to some people to get some original artwork, and then maybe try and get some new interviews and the project rather snowballed. SO- this is my 36-page, full colour Zine Zero Worship, full of never-before-seen interviews, writing and original art.
You can buy it here. It's super-cheap. Contains - An 8-page interview with Billy. This is the full transcript of a piece I wrote for the i Paper last year, that was a 1,000 word feature about Ogilala, this is a 7,000-word wide-ranging and fascinating conversation covering the entire career and the SP reunion. - Never-before-seen James Iha interview from 2012 - NEW interview with Melissa Auf der Maur - NEW interview with Linda Strawberry about putting together the tour - NEW interview with Katelan Foisy who did much of the graphic art for the tour and Ogilala - NEW interview with Russell Lissak, guitarist with Bloc Party about his SP fandom - NEW interview with Nicole Fiorentino and her new band Bizou (who are great btw) - Deep dive feature on SP's UK tours (written especially for this) - Deep dive on the gear used by 90s-era SP (as above) - Loads of original art and writing commissioned for the Zine. I'm WELL AWARE I'm going to take some shit from certain Netphoria corners, but fuck it- if it sells me a couple of issues I can take it. https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net...31&oe=5C61811A https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net...f9&oe=5C15AE4D https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net...74&oe=5C5F2347 https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net...d1&oe=5C5BB4BE |

I like what's visible of the graphic design, great mix of beautiful and sleek, and would like to read especially the interviews with Melissa and Nicole. Too bad I don't collect any more, otherwise I'd make use of the worldwide shipping, I guess. Pretty!
Since this is your writing and your interviews, there is a zero chance the notorious SP legal camp can come after you over copyright, correct? Assuming you did the interviews for specific media outlets. |

As for the text - aside from two guest writers, it's 100% my writing so the SP team have no ownership over it. There's one piece that was previously published by a website I write for, but they gave me permission to reprint it here. The rest is either brand new or has only been published in part - in which case I'd keep the rights to the full transcript I've included here. The piece I did for the iPaper cherry picks from that BC interview and is written up as running prose, so I really don't think I'll have any trouble from them. |

Are you the same Razor Star who used to post on Zomb? You once posted a photo of yourself, and I said you looked like the singer from Keane. Someone replied, "That's brutal" - and a different person added, "But uncanny." Lol, must have been 13 years ago or so?

YES! That was a millstone around my neck during the mid 2000s. Thankfully both me and Tom from Keane have moved on.

Very nice looking zine.
Have you considered sneaking equipment passed security and taping the London show? |

Based on the thread title I was imagining angsty poetry, hand-drawn comics featuring Bugg Superstar and your old entry from the Machina Mystery contest. Reality proves better than expectation. I'm not making any promises, but I might actually buy this.

Looks very high-quality and it's impressive that you got so many interviews! Was the 2012 Iha interview with you?
Layout seems great, artwork isn't my cup of tea but well-done, like the font choices. Will Sadmachines call your zine "fake news" tho? lol |

Yer, all the interviews are with me. There's two bits of guest writing here (one on gear, one a personal experience) but I wrote and designed everything else. There's a totally different feel to the artwork on each page, as they're all different artists.
