Interpol have been trying new things ever since Our Love To Admire. Would people really rather they just continue to crank out stuff like Turn On The Bright Lights and Antics? Wouldn't you rather see a band evolve and experiment? I can't understand the close minded attitudes people have of their last two albums.

cocksure is too closed-minded to open himself up to a great album such as interpol's latest

The attitude that people have of Interpol Self Titled is the same attitude that a lot of people had of Adore when it first came out. The band's sound has become too out there for a lot of people. They don't want to see the band grow and change.

haha was gonna say.
but look good on them, they had one excellent album, and then banally replicated the same formula for the past 7 years to ever increasing commercial success. can't really blame them i guess. i'm just not going to give a shit about them.

Also liked the Jack Rose and Big Boi albums. The Omar Souleyman was great, too. I think there were some awesome blues and country compilations released by Arhoolie this year too, but that was possibly the end of 2009...

Yeah this album does totally fucking rule. Turns Me On is a missing Outkast jam, I swear.

I would also like to add Aloe Blacc - Good Things to my list. I just have a big soft spot for soul.

Do not fucking bullshit me. You listened to it once, maybe twice, just like eeeeeeverybody else who follows Bower's work. I appreciate Skullflower's music, and every fifteen or twenty months I get in the mood to listen to them, but seriously fuck anybody who acts like they listen to this shit in anything close to heavy rotation.

It's like people who own more than two Merzbow albums that aren't collaborations. Why?

I'm pretty sure he only said he enjoyed it. You can listen to something once or twice and enjoy it.

Maybe this is not something that is obvious to you, but it is obvious to everybody else.

Also, it perfectly possible that he enjoys listening more than twice. but he doesn't appreciate the new interpol album so i kind of have difficulty taking that guy serious anymore

ok. i like to listen to skullflower at low volume before going to bed. yes, this new one obviously similar to his other recent stuff, but it's all good at what it does. i listened to it 3-4 times i think, but a) it doesn't take me long to digest music (i can usually sing along to most albums after one listen) and b) as eric blair pointed out, i do merely "enjoy" it.

also the merzbow comment shows that you don't seem to have heard much merzbow at all. his music is incredibly varied, from industrial minimalism to dark ambient to spastic harsh noise to something like experimental dance music

skullflower is pretty varied too if you consider his entire back catalogue
