Sound of Jonathan Melvoin
Was searching for some work from Jonathan Melvoin on the short period that he joint the Pumpkins on stage (from late 1995 till their last concert on July 10th 1996). And realized I never had any recollection what his sound was during these performances.
Here a nice piece during the outro on Here is No Why (starts around 14:00): Also: Would love to hear more from his contribution in this short lived part of their live performances. |

the only remarkable thing he did that was "different" from flemmings keyboard parts was the silverFuck drumming.
apart from that, I never understood how the band pretended they needed a proficient keyboardist like mike garson. wait, that was a bad idea as well. whelp. dummybillykeyboarding is all they needed... |

I thought Linda was the best keyboard player (the one from 07/08). I thought she perfectly balanced when to overplay and show off her virtuosity and when to blend more into the background and supplement the core band (like Melvoin and Flemion mainly did).
I can kind of sort of handle Garson on the Adore shows as it blends with the vibe they were going for at the time, but I found his playing completely out of place and awful during the Machina era. That performance of "Snail" from the Storytellers might be the worst thing the old band ever played. I did laugh at that random second keyboard player they had that really didn't do anything other than press random buttons on synthesizers to make ridiculously over the top synth nosies and farty noises. |

I thought Garson playing in the euro Machina shows was great. Especially the September shows.
And the Johnny melvoin highlight for me was him in the zero video. Wouldn’t have been the same video without him. Do you think his family checks in on netphoria now and then? If so, then yeah, he was 100% the reason why MCIS tour was so successful. After he died people lost interest in SP. Change my mind. |
