No, no it'll be all right. I just couldn't believe you put Ten last. I know mainstream music is frowned upon around these parts but I mean come on. Ten was a great album, hits and non-hits.

Ten will go down in history as one of the great rock and roll albums of all time.

SP wasn't mainstream for too too long. I just meant that a lot of people like obscure music much more than mainstream on this board. Or at least it's the way it seems.

why d'you find that so hard to believe? ten has dated much worse than their other records - sure it's got some classic songs but the whole thing sounds so overblown and overwrought even in comparison with vs and certainly all the records that followed.

it ain't overblown, overwrought or overrated, it just happens to sound different (better, imo). fretless bass is underused in rock, and eddie sounds good w/ reverb. whoever produced ten did a great job, obviously. i don't understand the "dated" comment either, but whatever. probably cause i'm more likely to like sth old than sth new to begin with

I have to agree with this. Ten may sound the most "90s" of all Pearl Jam's albums, but it is a pretty definitive statement on the entire alternative music scene at the time. It's a pretty classic record. I really like the "big", "overblown" quality of it. I appreciate music that tries to be very large and far reaching. This has gone out of style, but I prefer it.

it has nothing to do with me frowning upon mainstream music. i like mainstream music. i just don't like Ten much. as far as these parts go, i don't think you'll have to worry.

lol @ Pretzel Logic. tcm's list is pretty standard.

1. Yield
2. Binaural
3. Riot Act
4. Vitalogy
5. Pearl Jam
6. No Code
7. Vs.
8. Ten

something like that. I'm not sure where I'd put the new one really. It's real good but I'm not into the band enough right now/anymore.

I haven't heard the last couple, besides the odd few on the radio. Are they worth purchasing?

All PJ albums are worth listening to, live and studio.

eh I'll just group them to how often I listen to them

more often:
No Code
Vs.
Vitalogy

less often:
Yield
Binaural
Riot Act

least often:
Ten
s/t

I probably listen to the live bootlegs more than anything else.

how the hell anyone can like No Code best unless they're trying to be contrarian is beyond my understanding

I think it's the most consistently entertaining. All the songs are great besides around the bend IMO. Hail Hail and In my Tree are 2 of the best PJ songs ever.
