Anyone have racist elders? My Gma is the kind to share white pride memes on Fbook and casually drop n bombs when speaking of her neighbors kids. In the past it seemd easier to ignore as the product of her generation (and, since her husband died, a lonely decade on the couch with only Fox News for company) but now this nazi shit is in our faces daily. And she's a gleeful, proud part of this movement

She's coming to visit me in a few days. Maybe it's silly and self-righteousness on my part but even the thought of just giving her a hug is causing alarm bells of anxiety in my butterfly belly, accompanied by an overwhelming urge to just call it off

Anyone have to deal with this shit? Any tips/faves?

In all srsness most of my fam is racist. They tend to hate Albanians and Gypsies. Germans are arrogant Turks are dirty and cruel. Asians are inferior while Africans are closer to beasts than humans.

i dont have to deal with it and it's easy for me to say but. maybe assert to her when she does say something that you don't agree? obv you dont want to get in an argument, not gonna change granny's mind but maybe it's worth letting her know that you are tolerating it but you don't agree with her

Your grandmother is a product of her times. Aging and losing your faculties isn't easy. Just love her and appreciate that she's still with you and look past her flaws and focus on the good... I think that is the reasonable approach to take.
