i'm also really repulsed by the popular "shit eating grin" idiom because it doesn't make any sense and its gross and nerdy dudes say it ALL THE TIME for some reason. its part of nerd patois or something and i'm like stop it. stop it right now. its in the same category as the "its called {...}" response (e.g. its called being patronizing & cloying) or "amazeballs" or "all of the win" that kind of shit

i guess i got more annoyed by those kind of cliches because i read an excellent essay by orwell about use of language and he's very critical of idiom & cliche that doesn't make literal sense. i mean he doesn't even want you to really use cliches or idioms at all but if you are, at the very least it should make sense.

I think there's a pretty good explanation here

http://ask.metafilter.com/177958/Ety...hiteating-grin

Quote:
shit-eater noun coarse orig US
1. A contemptible or despicable person. 1937–.

2. A person or animal which eats faeces. 1968–. Hence shit-eating, adjective

1. shit-eating grin: (a) a broad grin expressing uncontrollable delight or (self-)satisfaction, esp. at having got away with something outrageous or improper. 1957–. (b) an ingratiating, embarrassed, or uncomfortable expression, esp. as exhibited by someone undergoing a humiliating experience; a forced smile. 1990–.

2. Contemptible, despicable. 1960–.

3. Of or engaging in the eating of faeces. 1970–.

Apparently being President isn't very easy?

Trump says he thought being president would be easier than his old life

Quote:
By Stephen J. Adler, Jeff Mason and Steve Holland | WASHINGTON
Fri Apr 28, 2017 | 8:44am EDT

He misses driving, feels as if he is in a cocoon, and is surprised how hard his new job is.

President Donald Trump on Thursday reflected on his first 100 days in office with a wistful look at his life before the White House.

"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."

A wealthy businessman from New York, Trump assumed public office for the first time when he entered the White House on Jan. 20 after he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an upset.

More than five months after his victory and two days shy of the 100-day mark of his presidency, the election is still on Trump's mind. Midway through a discussion about Chinese President Xi Jinping, the president paused to hand out copies of what he said were the latest figures from the 2016 electoral map.

"Here, you can take that, that's the final map of the numbers," the Republican president said from his desk in the Oval Office, handing out maps of the United States with areas he won marked in red. "It’s pretty good, right? The red is obviously us."

He had copies for each of the three Reuters reporters in the room.

Trump, who said he was accustomed to not having privacy in his "old life," expressed surprise at how little he had now. And he made clear he was still getting used to having 24-hour Secret Service protection and its accompanying constraints.

"You're really into your own little cocoon, because you have such massive protection that you really can't go anywhere," he said.

When the president leaves the White House, it is usually in a limousine or an SUV.

He said he missed being behind the wheel himself.

"I like to drive," he said. "I can't drive any more."

Many things about Trump have not changed from the wheeler-dealer executive and former celebrity reality show host who ran his empire from the 26th floor of Trump Tower in New York and worked the phones incessantly.

He frequently turns to outside friends and former business colleagues for advice and positive reinforcement. Senior aides say they are resigned to it.

The president has been at loggerheads with many news organizations since his election campaign and decided not to attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington on Saturday because he felt he had been treated unfairly by the media.

"I would come next year, absolutely," Trump said when asked whether he would attend in the future.

The dinner is organized by the White House Correspondents' Association. Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason is its president.

i'm glad to know that trump is miserable & he hates the job and he misses driving & being able to do things on his own because he ended all of that forever well until he hopefully dies soon of a massive coronary

it makes sense now that he was always wailing on obama, he really really thought the job was EASIER than what he did and all barry did was go around golfing and taking photo ops and saying inspirational things and having everyone love him, which caused his envy to burn because this black guy doesn't even DO ANYTHING!!! and yes i'm sure racism had nothing to do with thinking president obama was a grifter* layabout.

god i hate trump so much i'm so glad he's unhappy !!!

*he is a grifter tho just a hard working one with incredible ambition

Look, if you hurt your knee, honestly, I'd rather have the federal government focus on North Korea, focus on other things than your knee or than your back, as important as your back is.

I would much rather see the federal government focused on other things.

This morning I read about Trump chatting with and inviting Duterte. Also read him praising Kim Jong Un for staying in power.

And there are some of you who still aren't nihilists?

Speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Mr. Trump expressed admiration that Mr. Kim had been able to keep a grip on power.

“A lot of people, I’m sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else,” Mr. Trump said. “And he was able to do it. So, obviously, he’s a pretty smart cookie."

Yeah.
