what's unfortunate is you can't really get much better coffee than starbucks in China
i mean you can but it's a challenge and you'd have to specifically devote some time into doing so, so starbucks is the go to choice for all other scenarios. it's also like 4.5 dollars a cup here :/ |

No one is gonna appreciate my feng shui joke unless I point it out. At that point no one will appreciate it because I pointed it out.

one of the biggest annoyances about Chinese folks as people is how it's part of their culture to create around them a circle of destroyed napkins, cigarette butts and eaten foods when they eat out. and i mean like on the table, on the floor, everywhere. even inside restaurants. it kinda sucks, especially for those who need to clean up after them. i definitely always throw away my own trash.

The second time I had Starbucks was in New Orleans in 1999 because the Irish guy we was travelling with had been working in a NY Starbucks on a working holiday visa. He said caramel flavoured coffee was really good.
It wasn't. |

IMO if one is a regular coffee drinker, having a machine at home is pretty important... I have to imagine people who go to Starbucks every day spend thousands of dollars a year on coffee which is mind boggling to me

You don't need a machine to have good coffee though. It can be French press or pour over and great coffee is there in your kitchen for you to enjoy.

that is true but if one really likes coffee, a good machine is a good investment. It's easy and consistent. I've never done pour over. French press coffee can be amazing if the press is decent, but if you tend to run around like a crazy person trying to get out the door so you aren't incredibly late for work every morning, a machine is a nice convenience

yeah, filters are paper so my entire coffee process is compostable
and like i said the coffee is bad. i might be spoiled because i live in one of these finagled cities that used to have indie culture that is now getting replaced with local chains owned by holding companies but i have a lot of choice for fresh roasted beans and shit even the bulk stuff i can get at the super market is better than starbucks |

My dad uses that bunn coffee maker and pre ground folgers. He puts a lot of coffee in and it doesn't all get saturated. He likes bleached filters. I already asked my mom why she has an expensive coffee maker but used all the money given to her kids on their bills
