When Fig came home she needed a rabies booster. While at the vet (not my vet, banfield because the rescue was covering the shot) the next day, poor little girl had som stuff squirted in her ears that didn't do anything as far as I could tell.
After a while if being here, it was obvious that Nougat now had ear mites as well as Fig. With Katy, I use a bit of mineral oil in her ears to remove all the bad wax and smother the mites. She's done really well on that and has clear ears. It is also working on my cats!! So just a tip for you guys. Many shelters do the same because of the sheer number of animals they get and the cost of medications. For whatever reason, mineral oil works really well and you can apply with no fear of them consuming it and getting sick. |

he had an owner that would just leave the bowl out, evergreen you know? so then when he got kinda unceremoniously dumped on my old roommate brent, he started feeding him much less, basically once in the day and once at night. You couldn't feed the fat fucker any less than that or he'd raise hell for hours. He had feline AIDS so he couldn't go outside which didn't help his fatness, but he was a big snuggle bug goofball.

Aw. Fig always has access to (dry) food but she eats less than 2/3 cup (the reccomended amount) daily. I don't know why she hasn't slimmed down. So idk we'll see how it goes

Today when picking up cat litter we talked to Fig's former foster mom about Fig and she was very happy to see pics and hear about her progress. We also found out that they rescue cats with cerebellar hypoplasia. When Mike and I have a bigger place we will adopt another kitty in need and maybe special needs. I guess I've become a cat person?

Nougat knows how to make the cat in the box come out but Fig may not know and definitely doesn't care |

i grew up with a few strays, one was originally named rocky and then came to be known via dad as Stinkweasel was a big gray tabby that just walked in the house carefree one morning and stayed with us for years until he disappeared
there was Domino who was a black and white spotted cat that followed me around the neighborhood one week and then we adopted him, but found out shortly later that he had feline leukemia and had to be put down. that was one of the first cats that was really "mine" even tho i only had him for a few months, he liked to sleep in my room and sit on my lap. the other cats we had were more attached to my parents and also i'm sure being a little boy and trying to pick them up and stuff was not smart either but Dom loved it my parents just recently "free adopted" a very slinky, slender cat they named Cleo because she's a tabby but looks Abyssinian or Egyptian or something. she was living in the bamboo and dad started feeding her and took her in. i think the cat ran away from someone and my mom wanted to keep it but Cleo is a very mischievous knock-all-the-shit-off-the-counter type cat so i can see that someone might have just thrown her out too. my friend melissa has a cat named Maybe (which is NOT a reference to arrested development which she's never seen) which was basically feral around her apartment complex until she fed it and made friends with it. the cat to this day hates everyone but her |

No runaways thankfully. Always worried about because all my parents' cats were inside-out but I would not do this. Opal once brought in a live mouse into the house. She brought me a living chipmunk that played dead. Shredder would bring home dead bugs. I don't approve of any of this behavior even if it was interesting at the time

@trots Cleo sounds like the bengal we were given, cat is trixter through and through
Super vocal, wasn't weaned properly so severe attachment/abandonment problems (yowl at top volume if we go in another room from her, act like a shitfucker all week long (cause the house is totally empty for like, 10 hours)), and knocking things over is her 2nd fave torture after clawing my amplifiers. But when she's not flipping out over her disability, she's hilarious and cute enough to convince us to keep her, and give her endless scratchies under her stupid catdamn chin |

Honestly, r2p, it sounds like your kitty is Nougat. She is totally nuts. Like today we spent most of the day fixing her box/perch/scratching post thing with drills and lag screws and in the middle of a break she knocked the whole situation over yet didn't run away in fear but continued to look for ways to destroy it. She's an adult cat with no fear and unlimited energy. She'll run and do kicks off the walls

Needs to have all doors open all the time so she can see in. I'll just be on the toilet and hear some awful mewling to be let in
