Well, I just listened to Monuments, and this is def a far more interesting listening experience. What a seriously flawed album MTAE is.

Now playing Oceania. Anyone like that album more than Shiny and oh so tedious album title?

I like Oceania. It’s got some bad spots but I think it’s a far better album than the largely generic Zeitgeist or the embarrassing Monuments or Teargarden. Shitty and Oh So Meh might be worse than all of them though.

I have only listened to Oceania once, quite recently, and it was better than expected but I have no desire to play it again. I've never felt "ooh I need another Oceania fix".

jk, I play it from time to time, it's real short, hence those 3/5 reviews Billy fumed about.

Oceania's OK tbh. If Jimmy played on it it'd actually be a pretty good album.

Shiny is better than Monuments, not by much though. Rubin must be more of a fuck than I thought if he insisted the world needed to hear Seek. Silvery is easily the best song on the album. Marchin On gives me a Cash Car Star vibe, only not as good. With Sympathy is OK, seems like one of those songs that is building up and then just finishes. Travels sounds like an Oceania song, maybe a bit of TFE in it, not bad. Alienation alienated me. It's forgettable, the only memorable thing is the solo,which isn't good enough to make it a decent song. Solara is just GLOW. OK nowhere ear that bad, just trying too hard imo. KoM is also just OK. Not seeing much if any difference James and Jimmy have made here.

Overall: fuck Rubin off. Stop thinking you are a good singer now. Mix the vocals lower. Write non-shitty lyrics.

Oceania is decent. SosB is the weakest SP release ever. It’s interesting that Monuments gets pissed on when there isn’t one song on SosB as good as something like Tiberius or One and All.

Tiberius is the only genuinely good song on there tbh. One and All I like as the old, discarded riff propels it, the lyrics are kind of phoned in. Drum + Fife is OK. Monuments would be pretty good without the scratch lyrics that somehow made it onto the finished track plus the "lovahhh" crap. The rest are meh or shit (hello Anti-hero).

It's the new Smashing Pumpkins reunion album. It doen't matter what it was originally intended to be. The plans changed and they decided to make an album. I also find it funny that people rationalize "well they only recorded for a couple of months"... Ughh yeah? That's probably longer than most bands take to go into the studio to record a record. A lot of bands go in for a few weeks to knock one out.

All of the excuses I'm reading are pretty much trying to portray this as a rushed, slapped together project, but it's all a total conjecture... Even if it were true, then it's only on the band to blame for half-assing it.

I’d go as far to say that you probably only listen in depth to one genre of music, and probably have a very surface level idea of what other genres are. Like “yo bro kind of blue is a cool jazz record.” That’s if you’ve ever even listened to jazz.

Middle Goats and With Sympathy are 2 of the tracks I like best on this album, but I am still curious about your 10/10 - you find both songs as good as the best Songs from SD & MCIS?

No I’m trolling, but I do think they’re as good as or better than the post 2000 stuff.. like good as gossamer.

SD and MCIS best songs are untouchable and I think at this point assume they don’t count when rating/comparing new material.
