Was thinking about this recently. Any other platform out there notifies you when you are mentioned or someone is interacting with you. Fb, twitter, instagram, email.. even LinkedIn.

Here, you have to scour and likely miss a lot is it unless you are really dedicated or obsessive

The technology is out there folks...

Would an update to vbulletin provide notification functionality? And if so, is cost the only roadblock, or are there others?

I think latest has integration with all kindsa shit and I'm.sure better notification system and interface... I just rarely use an actual computer that much outside of work. Mobile interfaces and apps are so essential to be useful nowadays. It's 195 bucks for a new license. There is a daddy Warbucks out there in sure of it who can lay the pipe on a new platform.

There will be server requirements but I can't imagine it's outside of the sql running now.. maybe an update needed on web services I'd think.

The problem is not the cost. It is getting someone we can trust to do the upgrade. Andrew also thinks the server will need to be upgraded or we will need to get a host. So the problem is time and expertise, not money.

They offer cloud hosting too http://www.vbulletin.com/en/vbulletin-cloud/ if money isn't the problem, seems like a handover. Looks like mobile might be a another 200 as an add on but 175 for the lowest option isn't bad.

if switching over to a version that runs well on mobile too, I'm sure the extra 200 wouldn't be the problem.

Andrew said something about this place not being able to be upgraded to the newest version all at once. It needs to be upgraded a couple of times in order for it to be the newest version.
