well I was 11 years old. It was nov 17. a sunday. I had MCIS and SD and I'm not sure about the rest at that point. It was my first rock show. I went with my dad and my sister. It completely blew my mind and I knew I wanted to play guitar and write songs after that. Unfortunately the part I remember the most is when my dad made us leave during the encore and I was so mad. I also remember during either Porcelina or Ruby they had this kind of water-rippling/glass ceiling type effect on the stage and maybe on the ceiling (surely not but that's how I remember it) and I was like mesmerized by it, the whole thing was amazing. We had pretty good seats also, not floor seats but like 8th row in the stands, to the left of the stage. honestly that concert changed my life, made me get really, really obsessed over SP, however I don't remember many specific points in the concert. i did not know the second MCIS disc songs very well at that point.

Garbage opened and at one point Shirley Manson said something like 'none of you care about us fuck you' lol. i think that show made my dad really respect the band as well. he was always open to listening to them and going to more concerts etc

it's weird cuz something traumatic happened to me earlier in that day so i know the exact date this traumatic thing happened, it's very strange. i mean it wasn't something totally devastating but it did affect me and i've talked about it in therapy and just knowing the exact date is odd

I was listening to a lot of rap music. Fuckin' love Eminem. Still do, more or less. And Dr Dre. You get the gist.

My introduction was BWBW too hahah. I was just skipping through songs on dad's iPod and heard a song start with "the world is a vampire". I listened to it and LOVED IT. like you, mind blown. I then heard 1979 (also on dad's iPod) and just listened to everything they'd made, almost. Something about Billy Corgan fascinated me. I like people like him, because I'm kind of similar too. But I'm talking, like, '93-ish Billy. He's really changed.

and of course, their music is excellent and flawless, needless to say.

Weird no one here on Netphoria, that I've seen so far, mentioned it. Does no one here like AC/DC?

The Homerpalooza ep was what really made me go check out the band, but I remember seeing the Bullet video prior to that and thinking they all just looked really cool.

At age 11 I was listening to Kriss Kross and Michael Jackson's Dangerous. Oh, man.

History and English. But I was stoned most of the time and followed my own curriculum, especially in grad school. Apparently I was supposed to read some dude's writing about another dude's writing about another dude's writing about stories. instead i read the actual stories.

i never cared for it much at the time of the album's release, but it's fantastic.

the notes/chord structure do well embodying a sense of alienation, but the overall feel of the song, production wise, is an opiate blanket. mmm

thematically, i'd always assumed it had something to do with the conflict-heavy portions of glass' character arc. perhaps:

Ha. The BWBW vid was my intro too. I thought they were evil and satanic and quickly switched back to black and white kung fu classics.

Ten years later I was downloading Mashed Potaters.

Whatever it means, the prechorus/chorus really gets to me because it is so reminiscent of how I felt during abuse episodes

Quote:
I was alive...

In my body
You'll never find me
You'll never pull me out
In my body
The lonely creatures
The lonely creatures scream
where you kinda of retreat into your mind and protect some kind of essence/core of yourself that they can't touch. and that core feels very... primitive. creature-like

even the rest of it can be seen as a retrospective look at when abuse was happening, even working through it ("so you can die")

Quote:
Left hiding, I form the screams
Burned alive
Wasted sunsets
Haunting my torment
Right through my clothes

Yeah those are good lyrics. And I've always felt that Billy was abusing uppers during this era.

no, your interpretation is totally valid and quite fitting.

i was just thinking that since the song occurs within the confines of a specific conceptual context, perhaps it more than likely speaks to that narrative. but, as the internet is wont to say -- why not both?

In terms of the Glass narrative, I took this one as expressing his grief at June's death, retreating into himself, isolated and withdrawn. But on a personal level it's definitely about abuse - "You were my violence stuck in my life".
