The Vast of Night, on Amazon Prime

This is a really fun little movie, with really strong, even showy, filmmaking from a first-time director and two first-time writers. Lots of really long takes, for instance. I'd heard it reminded people a bit of old Twilight Zone episodes and it's actually presented as one. A- because even though I think it's only 90 minutes, it still felt like you could trim it back in places, but I really want to see whatever these guys come up with next.

Let me know what you think when you get to it; I think basically if the trailer makes it seem like something you'd like, you're not going to be disappointed.

Blow the Man Down, also on Amazon Prime

If you liked Fargo, and who didn't, give this a try. B+

Thanks for the reminder. This has been in my list for a little while, but I need to advance it forward, this weekend perhaps. I mean, c'mon. Character Actress Margo Martindale from BoJack Horseman!

Fun fact: that movie was shot in the next town over two(?) years ago. Lady Globes spotted Ms. Martindale at the local Rite Aid (now a Walgreen's).

For a moment, I thought you'd said Rifle Aid.

Nice to see some recommendations coming in for the ol' download list, though, fellas in the bank.

The Invisible Man (2020)

I liked it, kept me guessing for a minute (though fer fear of spoilers I won't say what) & ended up re-watching a few days later w/ a different set of folk to see if there was anything I missed the first time around. Kinda interested to look into the source material, since this had to be a pretty far take on it

uh, A? i hate rating shit, but you mongrels insist!

I read the original novel last year. Was a good read! As I understand it, the new flick is a completely new take. You'd have to watch the Universal Invisible Man from 1933 if you wanted something that hews closer to the source material.

Yes

I forgot this part, but in the actual movie, he inserted a frame of Waldo from Where's Waldo lying in a pile of dead bodies:

Beginning to think something might be a little off about Mel Gibson
