Default Are james and jimmy even contributing?

I get the impression that they are not even full into the whole thing.
Jimmys drumming is the worst to date... and i dont hear james at all.

Years ago many fans said that james would be the key gor a good album.
So, where is he now?

brothabigcock, yeah I'm really skeptical of the whole thing. It doesn't seem like they've spent any great length of time in the studio together. I recall maybe seeing an instagram or facebook "look who stopped by the studio today" post about James. I really think Billy did the whole thing himself to click tracks, Jimmy came by and threw some drums on top and maybe James added a guitar bit or two. It appears they weren't involved in the writing process at all. Not sure what Billy's lackey Jeff's involvement is or why he's even still in the band. Seems like Billy wants to make cheap albums with as little effort and expenditure as possible.

james and jimmy are only hired guns at this point.

no one else is paying to produce it, and fans aren't paying to listen to it.

You see, they didn't have anything better to do with their lives and really need the money. That's why they came back.

false equivalency

that song was a.) a home demo and b.) released within the context of a full band effort. Literally no one has ever said what you just said. James and Jimmy's involvement at this point is just paying for the kids college and padding their retirement fund, and that's ok. But let's call it what it is.

The next two songs will be shoegazey alt rock with plenty of big muffed 9th chords and beautiful, quiet, dreamy passages. Both will ******* a two minute ebow section from James - including a solo that will supercede the SIYL solo and flamboyant, jazz infused drumming from Jimmy.

this is depressing cause of that interview where they talk about how SP songs were written back in those days:

It’s not a band anymore so much as it’s a brand.

Big difference.

Billy talking about how maybe someday his kids will continue the SP name proves that.

Yes, let's revisit the subject when we're jaded enough by disappointment that emotions won't run high.

I always want to give the upcoming music a chance. I would agree that it appears that there is really no interest from any band members in recapturing SP1 energy and sound. The two new songs are SP2 in every respect and seem like they belong as Teargarden singles. James' 2012 record was pretty solid and it was a relief to listen to it and hear traces of classic SP, so i would agree that it seems like James is not contributing much considering the music sounds exactly like Billy's recent output. I don't know about everyone here, but it caught me that its been 12-13 years since you could really hear Jimmy's drums on a SP track.

Exactly my point. Strange enough having one of the greatest rock drummers but forcing him to play monotonous 4/4 without any fills or vibe.
Having 3 guitarists but letting strawtits play the synths.

I hear no difference between teargarden songs moodwise or productionwise.

Sad sad sad

Not just Jimmy and James though. Bill posts (promotes) equally his wrestling shit, his cafe business and his music. Don't see why other folks should approach engaging with the band as some pinnacle of creative endeavor anymore, when Billy doesn't seem that focused on it either... Maybe if he spent more time writing songs, and less writing wresting fan fic or sandwhich menus, things would be different.

Giant fanfare: "I got the Gish guitar back guys, bet you can't wait to hear what killer riffs and solos I got ready to rock out. Oh, wait - here is some electro pop instead. Eh. Best drummer in the world, hit a straight 2/4 plz. Funky guitarist; bury him in the mix...

I don't mind the songs so far, anyway, just hope they not really representative of the rest of the album.

Anyway. That said, i'm still optimistic that the rest of the record will be better than the last 10 years or so. Perhaps i'm just totally deluded.

i guess we'll see tonight tonight

i think the only real hope is that traditional SP records are pretty stylistically diverse

but i think there's a reason the first singles of MCIS weren't beautiful and we only come out at night
