In reuniting The Smashing Pumpkins, the band's dedication remains to its fans and its music. To that, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and William Corgan haven't played a show with D'arcy Wretzky for over 18 years. But it's not for a lack of trying. For despite reports, Ms. Wretzky has repeatedly been invited out to play with the group, participate in demo sessions, or at the very least, meet face-to-face, and in each and every instance she always deferred. We wish her all the best, and look forward to reconnecting with you all very soon.

firstly, notice how it opens all corporate. "the sp organization is dedicated to its fans". this is the way somebody speaks when they put up a shield and verging on dishonesty (because we know Bill is losing his fucking mind raging over this right now). this is a deeply emotional matter, yet the response opens up very controlled and unrevealing. all this redundant double speak to open up the statement - it's very telling imho that they/he have something to hide.

then we have this gem of a sentence:

notice how the first sentence coming off the vacant redundancies, is basically billy's reason for not wanting d'arcy to participate: "we haven't played together in 18 years". also it's billy's writing style - using "for" to mean "because", etc. it's him.

we all know he doesn't respect her musicianship. he simply doesn't trust her ability to play a tour after so long, and that's all there is to it. jimmy hates her so he hopped right along on the bandwagon. saying they offered her to come and she refused is stupid and sounds unlikely. why would she lie? and why would she be so obviously upset and disappointed about being excluded if she chose to not show up "or even meet face to face"?

i call bullshit.

That statement is weasel shit 101... Notice how they say over the last 18 years she has been repeatedly contacted... It's irrelevant what happened over the last 18 years.

I was down with D'arcy not being there if they couldn't work it out... But to hear that Billy was leading her on only 1 fucking month ago!?! That's absurd. I just figured that she wasn't going to be seriously considered in the first place, but to hear that Billy was giving her the run along and wouldn't even be frank with her is terrible... So sad....

This thing is just a slapped together cash-grab... It's exactly what I mentioned about the KISS reunion. Have Peter and Ace on one or 2 songs and then market it "new music from the original lineup!".

Hi. Long time lurker first time poster.

D’arcy says Corgan backed out of a contract. If true, show me. That’s the only real thing here that really matters. I believe she wigged out on going to record. It’s not exactly out of character from what we know. Corgan’s handled it in typical fashion by pouring gasoline on the bridge, throwing a match on it, then bombing the bridge with a fighter jet.

Side note: you people behave, I’m here for the first time in ages and now have to read this place? Super.

Like someone mentioned though, once the dust settles and the tour launches, most of the casuals won't care. 90's nostalgia is super hot right now and with not very many 90's bands still around, Smashing Pumpkins go up in profitability and desirability and Billy gets his cash-cow.

It was a "contract proposal". Sneaky lawyer shit. About as bad as an A&R offer. "Sign here to agree to discuss terms only with us." and you're then committed to that one company regardless of their terms.
With billy it was probably a preliminary "would you sign a contract that had W, X, Y & Z for x,xxx,xxx$? please have your lawyer look it over, sign it and mail back 5 copies". TO the layman (like d'arcy) it probably reads like a contract, it's actually designed and worded to seem like one, but it's not. It's just a one sided "I do what I want, and you grovel at my feet". It probably also includes an NDA obviously - typical Billy lawyer shit that's kept everyone quiet for years.

totally. she gets performance credit for all the SP1 albums (and reissues) that she performed on. even if it was "billy played all the parts" I'm sure she contractually got a %, and keeps getting her % every time those albums sell. NO where near the $$$$ that billy gets with his song writing credits, but it's probably enough to keep her farm afloat.
