Smashing Pumpkins Working On Documentary From 2007 Club Tour
Not really that new, but:
The Smashing Pumpkins, fresh off being inducted into Hollywood's Rockwalk, show no signs of slowing down in 2008. After the much talked about reunion of Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain, who brought out new members Jeff Schroeder, Lisa Harriton and Ginger Reyes for a Smashing Pumpkins tour in 2007, the band are currently working on a documentary of their small club reunion tour. The small club reunion tour, which featured multiple night runs in Ashville, North Carolina and at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, California, showcased The Smashing Pumpkins new lineup performing songs from their extensive catalog, songs from the band's latest album 'Zeitgeist' and a certain amount of improvisation in each set list. Video clip : We caught up with Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain to get their thoughts on staying very busy in 2008. Watch video: Smashing Pumpkins Staying Very Busy In 2008 "Right now we got a lot up in the air. We're working on a DVD that's sort of a documentary of our residency Fillmore shows. We're going to put out hopefully some of our early demos for Christmas, probably put out a new Pumpkins single with new Pumpkins in the fall and then do a fall tour and then we start putting out a new Pumpkins album probably beginning next year." Billy Corgan also talked about the documentary capturing the bands surprise at some of the crowd reactions to the bands small club tour. Watch video: Smashing Pumpkins Working On Documentary From 2007 Club Tour "It was interesting because we didn't do what you would've expected us to do coming back after seven years. We decided to play these small shows and also write new songs while we were doing it and play lots of different songs from our catalog and we were met head on by the new American audience that just basically wants greatest hits. So it was a very interesting dynamic. It kind of surprised us and the documentary we're making actually sort of charts the progress of our sort of optimism to the shows going in to sort of being surprised and shocked by some of the reactions we were getting and then the songs that came out of that process. It's not a bad thing because the world is changing and I think we were sort of blindsided a little bit by the world that we're living in now. Which I think now we're totally acclimated to. It doesn't shock us at all but at the time was sort of surprising." The Smashing Pumpkins will mark their 20th anniversary this September with a special series of shows in New York, Los Angeles and their native Chicago. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain say they want to make each show special and they plan to have special guests at each show. The Smashing Pumpkins are also currently suing Virgin Records over the labels use of the band's music in a recent Pepsi ad. The lawsuit demands that Virgin pay the band the profits that were earned in the campaign, and asks for an injunction against using the Pumpkins' name or music in the future. source: http://ultimate-guitar.com/news/vide...club_tour.html |

Yeah, that's the biggest thing that jumped out at me. I took it to mean new band members. However, I like Jeff, Ginger and Lisa. I know Jimmy said something about having a lot more people on stage next time they tour.

I don't believe in it. He said "a new Pumpkins single with new Pumpkins in the fall and then do a fall tour" like Jeff, Ginger and Lisa are playing as a part of the studio band.

New Pumpkins meaning him and Billy. He said "new" to not confuse everyone as he was previously talking about releasing old Pumpkins music. "new" was just to clarify.

are you guys retarded or just trying to be funny? new music implies that it is FUCKING NEW, why would he say new pumpkins to avoid confusion over the demos? when he says new pumpkins he either means:
A. jeff, ginger, and lisa are out which makes no fucking sense because earlier in the article it lists them as NEW MEMBERS or B. They, as the new members of the new pumpkins, are going to record. |

Noone making mention that he said a new album early next year? So they are back to making albums after saying they were done making albums?

billy and jimmy are under the impression that everyone is in chaos because they don't think they're making albums anymore, which is to say they think we think they'll just be making like 2 songs a year or something like that.
In reality, they plan to make a collective of songs as they go and then look at them down the line to try and shape an album out of them. this should be interesting because, if they record as they see fit, it'll lead to a more eclectic set of songs that don't necessarily follow a theme in terms of sound or content. Kind of like trying to make a Mellon Collie jr. The only reason he's saying album is because they think we don't get what they're doing unless they play baby talk. |

it may have been intended to clarify that he wasn't referring to a new single from zeitgeist. he may have just stumbled over his words. so take it easy and don't read so much into every little goddamn thing. |

you're being really crazy here, Floppy Nono. he actually said "put out a new Pumpkins single" which someone could misunderstand as being another single from Zeitgeist or even one of the demos he had just mentioned. but it's not clear at all if he meant that or something else or nothing at all. if you watch the video, he's speaking off-the-cuff and fairly rapidly, and there's a slight hesitation when he says "with... new Pumpkins", a sense of searching in his eyes, and a shake of his head, as if he wasn't sure where he was going with the "with" and sort of backtracked. these things happen all the time in spoken conversation. maybe that's all it was, maybe not, maybe you're right, but who knows man? you're just being so insane about these two little words in this casual little interview, it's nuts!

And yeah maybe you are right Floppy, that'd be cool to get the other touring members in the studio. I was just stating what I thought Billy meant by "new". But seriously though, with your logic, new Pumpkins would mean a whole new band, no Jeff, no Ginger, no Lisa. NEW! |

im pretty sure nobody in their right mind would think one of the demos was what he meant by new pumpkins single because he would have said it in relation to the demos which are coming out in winter. The single is slated for fall. it could possibly be a single from zeitgeist but lets be serious, who really thinks billy is still trying to polish the zeitgeist turd? the band plays like 4-5 songs from it at their shows, it's clear they realized its reached its potential. |

Floppy Nono is right. It sounds as if we will actually get the whole band in studio which I hope is true.
