butch vig did the best job producing pumpkins records out of all of them.
and sd is one of the best sounding records of all time, hands down

it doesn't matter who you get to produce the next "sp" album though because even the best producer alive with all the right technical and personal traits still can't make anything of the reeking turds billy calls his songs these days

No, I think someone could help him make great music, it just won't sound anything like SD. I don't know who though.

But you know, I'd like to hear a Billy Corgan/Brian Eno collaboration.

ironically sd and mcis sound more like queen than zg, aside from the stupid vocal overdubs

i often wondered what butch could've done for mcis or machina, but i heard his recent work on the foo's 'wasting light' and wasn't all that impressed. so who knows what he'd do now. obviously what billy should've done in 06 was get vig and try to reproduce the sd sound. but anyway..

dirty, nevermind, and sd are 3 of the best sounding rock albums ever though

Obviously you mean the original and not the botched "remaster" but I very much agree.

Uh yeah, being the version that we've all known and loved for twenty years.

nevermind was so post-produced by andy wallace that butch vig was more of an engineer on that. plus it sounds exremely generic, not sure why anyone would consider it above average sounding.

well i don't know anything about the wallace thing, but generic? i think it's pretty distinctive and i know i'm not the only one. would you like to give examples of albums [released prior to nevermind] that you think share a similar sound? i can't remember ever hearing any, and i'd like to.

you don't know wallace mixed it using samples for better effects and changing the overall sound of the record quite a bit (there are pre-wallace mixes on the deluxe, check them out).

as for nevermind soundlikes - you won't trick me into this

never heard about this...intrigued. link please?

nevermind does have sort of a glossy sheen to the whole album which is interesting. at least the rock songs do. butch got alot of praise for recording grohls drums in a massive metal tube, or something.
drums sound pretty awesome, guitars sound pretty awesome on nevermind.

http://www.livenirvana.com/sessions/...-june-1991.php

here's craploads of info.

edit: don't expected it to be some sort of scam, though. it's just that most of the records sound came from the mixing stage.
