Would you want to switch lives with the pumpkins?
any of them, your pick
pardon the parasociality of this, but it's kind of interesting. you get money, fame, talent, legacy, etc but you're old and the band is bad now and maybe you own a tea shop maybe you're in grave next door |

yes.
first I'd put out the machina reissue I'd then issue a public apology for all the music that came out in the last 20 years, upload all the archives to bandcamp for free downloads and then I'd pack up the band |

Does the switch require me to have the personality of the person I'm switching with? Or would I essentially be myself but in their place?
Like, duh, I would switch places with a rich, famous person with an impressive body of work. Even if I had to also be responsible for all the shitty work. Hell, I'd trade places with an irrelevant one-hit wonder who is still living large off of royalties. Even Lou Bega accomplished more in his life than the average person ever does. I wouldn't switch places with Corgan if I had to actually behave and think like Corgan, though. That's the kind of misery no amount of money can salve. The other members of the band seem happy, though. Of course, there is the drawback of suddenly doubling my age and all the time I'd be losing out on. But rich people can afford better health than the rest of us, rich people can afford to act young without being judged for it as much (they can still go to younger-people parties and date models, which is creepy when your uncle Craig tries to do it), and so while the ill-health would be inevitable, I think I could still squeeze out as many more fun years as a rich/famous old guy as I will as a broke millennial. |

Wait, I just remembered Corgan has kids. So, no, I would not switch places with him. No matter how much fun I could have with that money… I'd still be responsible for rearing human lives.

james has been a major inspiration to my life for the past 6 yrs. if it weren't for becoming a fan of james i'd be a lot worse off right now. not to overly simp or anything but he is an incredibly good influence and in general has made the best life decisions of the band.

If you’d give up 20+ years for money you’re an idiot.

Okay but what are the odds that anything cool is going to happen to me in the 30 years I'd be lopping off?
Look, making a Faustian bargain for fame, money, and power in return for some intangible good I take for granted has NEVER turned out badly in any story I've read. |

Well I believe that I would get lucky and be one of the two non-deaf members. My odds of becoming deaf would simply be different.

James seems pretty set up - well respected, has never not been thought of as cool, obviously rich, with a nice looking family around him. Could phone up numerous musicians who would be happy to collaborate with.
Could make a new solo album tomorrow and it would be well received by the fans. Hops on another SP tour just to swell the coffers somewhat, but also has the enjoyment of playing those OG Pumpkins guitar lines. Possibly the only person who really KNOWS Billy Corgan. Full head of hair. |

James biggest talent was always his ability to endure the uncomfortable emotion of having to deal with Bill. Especially in the early days of the band when they were just daydreaming about the whole thing. Most people would have just walked away from that. In fact, they probably did. |
