A few decent radio singles. Feels like they devolved into irredeemable fluff post-Iris, but I can't say I've dug too deep.

I could see them mounting a nostalgia tour with Counting Crows and Collective Soul. Or is that a thing that already happened?

Shit, I'm waiting for the Soul Coughing reunion so that I can have the Beck/Cake/Soul Coughing show I know I deserve.

Name is their best track. They have a handful of good pop songs but most of their music is trash. Before the mid 90s they were like a terrible low-calorie derivative of the Replacements, and the other guy was the lead singer at first. After their few big hits they just become horrible cheesy easy listening rock pop

I like Naked, and Burnin’ Up from A Boy Named Goo.

Oh, and Dizzy is alright I guess... just the song, not that whole album.

One time I was waiting for a prescription at CVS and Name came on, but they had clearly rerecorded it and the singer kept doing tiny variations of the vocal melody that really stuck in my craw

I wonder if this was a proto-Taylor Swift situation

Don't worry, in the end, I got the prescription, all was okay there

I was pretty into Soul Coughing, well just El Oso. But I really love(d) that album.

I'm told that Mike Doughty, the head of Soul Coughing, has continued to make good music on his own this whole time

I'm not a good judge as I was never into them, but what I'm hearing of his new stuff seems nice

I think even the worst band ever can polish a turd and make it radio friendly. I have never liked them personally though.

I will say with a lot of bands from that era that are, admittedly, kind of meh, I have a sort of music nostalgia pass. Like, I am not going to go see Counting Crows but I will sing along to a song of theirs almost out of reflex.
