There I was, maliciously flirting with her via Facebook and considering Once Were Warriors as a potential viewing suggestion.

things like that struck a personal chord for her because she grew up in a super conservative Catholic family and was always just "different," then went to a hippie dippie liberal arts college and realized she had a major internal schism and was reaching across two worlds that wanted nothing to do with each other

beyond that she was just a real weirdo and I loved it

Barry Lyndon A+

Can't believe I never even heard of this. So good, especially the last duel.. The first part of the movie is adventurous the second part is grim. excellent.

Karamazov is senscent. but really long. id recommended notes from underground or white nights if you want some dostoevsky that's more accessible.

What's going on? Why are you acting normal and decent? Did you hit your head? Take powerful drugs? Finally disembowel and cannibalize some hapless soul and achieve visceral orgasm?

I don't know if you're into crime fiction, Took, but you should check out The Godfather.

James Caan is in it.

Of course! I've read Fear And Loathing at least three times and the Hell's Angels book and the Kentucky Derby short piece that started his whole gonzo thing. hunter was badass. too bad he got so high in africa and ruined his career (never made it out of the hotel room to cover a fight).

love the film too. del toro somehow steals the show despite depps utter senescetivitude.

annotated version still up on grantland archive http://grantland.com/features/lookin...entucky-derby/

Quote:
Steadman wanted to see some Kentucky Colonels, but he wasn’t sure what they looked like. I told him to go back to the clubhouse men’s rooms and look for men in white linen suits vomiting in the urinals. “They’ll usually have large brown whiskey stains on the fronts of their suits,” I said. “But watch the shoes, that’s the tip-off. Most of them manage to avoid vomiting on their own clothes, but they never miss their shoes.”

Yeah he completely fucked it up in Africa.
The fight would have made for a great writing project

The movie (F&LILV) is pretty damned good but as one reviewer said there is lots of fear but not much loathing

the move adaptation of fear and loathing is to date the best representation of what being on acid is really like that i've ever seen. not the story they go through, i mean mostly the visuals and the strange thought patterns and magnification of insignificant things
