Ok but seriously

You guys really think Bernie could win a general election?

The republican field is bad but. Americans are pretty dumb.

I dunno, it always seems to me that in the 2 months leading up to election day, there seems to me ubiquitous bitching about having to vote for the lesser of two evils.

There are a two main reasons I think Bernie has a real chance. First, he has more or less the same populist message that got Obama into office in '08, except he actually has a remarkably consistent 30+ year voting record to back it up. Second, he's really good at evading the soundbite. Listen to him explain his policy stances to this bearded child sitting on his friend's shoulders in a 3 piece suit:

I'm going to have a lot of free time this year and you better believe I will be helping Bernie win Florida in the primary.

The unfortunate thing about the word socialism is that Hitler and Stalin both used the word to label their own heinous yet disparate political philosophies, and the right would like you to believe that not only are Stalinism and Nazism are identical to each other, but they are spiritually identical to Scandinavian socialism.

sorry.. but it's not happening. i mean you could draw that parallel but obama was essentially drafted, had a massive coalition out of the box (relative to an "underdog") and had the support of dem operatives who were working to take her down as early as 2004 (which, is weird since there's virtually no recalcitrance to prop her up as frontrunner this time. but whatever)

not to mention she's already on track to steamroll with $2 billion. that alone is giving nobody a real chance, even if "another obama" popped out of the woodwork they'd be too late

he could cause a huge upset. maybe swaths of primary voters holding their nose for hillary will flock over to him once the campaign kicks off... but even then he'd be looking at about 30% of the vote max, and even that's being very generous. it's just not realistic

This is probably the most delusional you've ever been. I wish you were right but uh

If bernie wins Florida I'll eat my hat.

And yeah Obama hasn't been great. But I will reiterate. Kagan and Sotomayor. People need to understand the importance of that.

One more liberal replaces a conservative and citizens united is gone. Conservative replaces a liberal and roe v wade is overturned. For just two examples.

Listen man I know it's a moonshot. I know Hillary has the banks, defense contractors and oil companies filling her coffers. I know that the superdelegates will near-unanimously go for Hillary. I may be overly optimistic, but I'm not deluded. I just refuse to concede defeat to Hillary this early.

The campaign has only just started and she can't even give a straight answer on the TPP. Everyone in Washington has an opinion of the TPP except her, because she's waiting for the A/B testing on the issue to finish. Reminds me of www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0aNxzF7MAk

The email scandal is a direct result of her arrogance and recklessness, even if there was no real wrongdoing. Same with the Clinton Foundation donations. How hard is it to find competent bookkeepers for your NGO? All this and we're only a month in. If the Oval Office has been part of her endgame, these slip-ups should not have happened. Period.

at best hillary's a goddamn idiot for ever even suggesting she use her own private email server. even if she wasn't doing anything nefarious, why would you make the campaign harder for yourself by doing something so stupid.

benghazi is a non scandal, sure, but how many times are we going to hear that word over the next 18 months? the clintons have too much baggage. they just need to run their ngo and get lost. term limits exist for a reason.

i signed up to volunteer for bernie but i dunno like i'm not qualified so probably the only help i'll actually provide was my $10 donation
i'm out of a job so i sure have the time now
it's not a realistic hope but keep in mind my last presidential vote was cast for the candidate from the PSL who was not legally old enough to be president

And that last bit seems awfully dismissive of Hillary as an individual instead of an appendage of Bill's.

IMO what Obama teaches us is that the "left" is weak within the Democratic Party. Much weaker politically than the teabaggers are within the GOP. Presidents are forced to respond and react to interest groups, factions, etc. that hold political power. Democrats don't often punish their politicians at primary time. For instance, how many Dems in the House and Senate lost primaries after voting in favor of NAFTA or the Iraq War?

there's been a trend for the past 4 decades within Democratic politics of making excuses for or running away from the party's core values. It's obviously a byproduct of LBJ's policies and the Southern Strategy. And it's also a weak response to Reaganism and the political strategy of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove. Instead of standing ground on moral and ethical issues establishment dems spent decades running to "the center." Establishment Dems seem to have more fear politically of the White voters that rarely ever vote for them than they do of their own party faithful (African americans, union members, Latinos, etc. etc.)

I also think liberals are once again playing the GOP's game when they bitch about Hillary Clinton having political baggage or being associated with too many scandals. 99% of the so called controversies associated with her over the past 3 decades have been complete bullshit engineered by the Republican party in an effort to tear her down. Whitewater, Bengazi, Vince Foster, etc etc etc.

There isn't going to be a true "Left" general election candidate any time soon. But Liberals can apply pressure within their party so their leaders don't cave on key issues. That political pressure is why Hillary is solidly for the Right to Marry, for instance. And why I think you'll see her look for a Latino VP. Democrats have a great candidate this election cycle. One with experience and the money and network needed to ensure the next one two or three Supreme Court Justices are NOT 45 year old right wing religious extremist men. They simply need to start holding their cadidates' feet to the fire a bit more.

which is why I think Sanders running in the Primary is a good thing. And it's why I think the battle between Obama and Hillary 8 years ago was a good thing.

Hillary hid her emails! Why can't we read every email she ever sent? Conspiracy!!!

nevermind that almost all of the email from Bush Administration Officials was deleted. Or that she's not the first or last cabinet member or State Dept official to use a private email account.

Every time I hear otherwise liberal minded people arguing about this I'm reminded why the Left is such a joke politically.

Yes, FOIA is completely relevant. That law exists for a reason and she actively think it doesn't pertains to her. Seems to me that if you're in the executive branch, you should be intimately aware of laws governing official record keeping.
