Thanks for raping the thread page with the GIGANTIC LETTERS FROM HELL.
MCR had a video about WWII, there Gerard looked a lot like Billy circa Today. Except he's like 5' tall or something, they're all pretty short |

I still don't understand the whole SP MCR thing ! honestly can someone explain to me what it's all about and how it all began. I'd heard a while back that people where saying that these kids were the new SP, or something to that affect, and when I watched that music video (well some of it) that funeral one, I was like WTF I just didn't get it; I just don't see/think/hear SP when I hear them, albeit, I've only ever heard a couple of their songs. In fact, whenever I see or hear anything about MCR it just makes me think SP is even greater/better/talented than I already do, and that MCR doesn't even comes close; SP is just on a whole other playing field than these guys, well this is just my honest opinion, but I guess I can't really speak since I know practically nothing about their (MCR's) music, whatever....

i don't think mcr sounds anything like sp. that said, the first time i heard mcr, i thought, I can tell these guys are influenced by sp. i can't say what it was, it was just a feeling i had about it, and it turned out to be true.

I don't really see any similarities between MCR and SP except Gerard and Billy look alike and Mikey is pretty much obsessed with SP... and in pretty much every interview mentioning influences, Gerard says Iron Maiden and SP. Musically though... not many similarities.
My favorite song is "Early Sunsets Over Monroeville." i luv it. just thought id tel u. |

you know when i first saw the video for I'M NOT OK i was immediately reminded of the Smashing Pumpkins. It's really strange to see the kind of denial people have constructed to pretend like SP wasn't a dramatically angsty band that appealed to teenagers.

I'm Not Okay is such a horrible song, but I can't help but bounce around when I hear it.

i mean we're not talking about OMG THAY SOUND THE SAMESS i said they REMIND me of SP. Because they're derivative. It's really kind of easy to see the connects and I don't even really listen to MCR at all.

Yes, and if Billy Corgan didn't take himself seriously, I highly doubt Siamese Dream or MCIS would exist.

I'm pretty sure both SP and MCR have a degree of silliness and seriousness in them (especially back when SP were as new as MCR are now).
I dunno why you don't think MCR take themselves seriously... like it or not, The Black Parade is a pretty intricate album when you get right down to it and listen to it. And before anyone jumps on me, let me explain that by "intricate" I don't mean worthy of being compared to MCIS or something. I'm just saying that a band without an ounce of seriousness about their music would never make an album like The Black Parade. |
