I didn't say that one couldn't. I just said there aren't a ton around to choose from who can. Meanwhile, female bass players are comparatively a dime a dozen. So if Billy has to have a female in the band, it figures more that it'd be easier to put one at bass than anywhere else.

I'm sure that with a little effort one could put together an all female band that would blow any incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins off the stage. That's beside the point. My point is simply that the pool of female bass players who can handle SP material is almost certainly much larger than the pool of female guitar players and drummers who can.

the fact you believe there is a wide pool of female bass players that 'can play the SP standard' (which is known to be very simple bass wise) but not up to the 'sp guitar standard' show's two things:

A) you are an ignorant sexist.
B) you only think musically in the realm of the smashing pumpkins. anything outside doesn't count. if SP has had 4 female bass players.. there must be an over abundance!!

It only makes sense that since SP's bass parts are relatively simple, then the pool of bass players (male and female) who could play for SP at a professional level would be large in comparison to the pool of guitar players and drummers, as those parts for SP are more complex and require more skill.

It's not about saying that you can find a female bassist on every street corner and that there's some kind of over-abundance of them. It's not about saying girls aren't good enough to play Smashing Pumpkins songs. All I'm saying is that if you're determined to have a token female member in your band and still expect your band to sound halfway decent, it's going to be exponentially easier to find a decent female bassist (or any bassist, for that matter) who can learn "simple" SP bass parts then to find a skilled female guitarist or drummer who can play the more complex parts. I don't think that's a controversial or untrue statement.
