Default Daniel Johns (Silverchair) solo album...

...sounds like Justin Timberlake meets Lorde

(at least this single does)

Wait, let me develop that a little bit...

both:
-are white males (accused of being homosexual)
-experienced success in the 90s singing about adolescent issues
-were guitarists and leaders of their bands
-dated a famous pop singers
-took credited for most of their bands songwriting
-were/are releasing their first solo album
-ventured though electronic music

There you go

Holy Christ. This is legitimately worse than that Chris Cornell album "Scream".

after a 2nd listen, it really does sound A LOT like Royals by Lorde. I'm surprised you guys aren't digging this.

Both.

But what i REALLY mean is he's doing soulful and smooth. The way some white guy from Australia (who use to o grunge/alt) can't pull off.

Sounds like something I'd dig after listening to it 10 times or more. We'll see if I get that far.

That being said I'm looking forward to any potentially wicked tracks on his new album, he's usually good for at least a few good jams. I miss his metal but the voice will always be fun times.

Silverchair frontman doing alternative R&B. Wow I was really surprised. It does kind of sound like Jamie Woon. Whatever happened to Jamie Woon? He was supposed to be the UKs answer to the Weeknd and Frank Ocean. And just as he was getting big he disappeared.

His album Mirrorwriting is somewhat underwhelming. Lot of filler. But Night Air and Shoulda are great songs.

Anyway, Silverchair belong to the inner sanctum of the triple J illuminati so Daniel Johns will doubtless get endless radio rotation and second headline at every festival in Australia for the duration of the 2015/16 season. He'll crack top 10 in the hottest 100 next year. It's a terrible system.

i have a distinct memory of spending one summer in a dirty card shop playing magic the gathering for hours and listening to frogstomp with all my friends. we would all ride our bikes there and meet before they opened at like 1030/11 and play magic until 3 or 4. then we would go swimming or something. i think the guy tried to close by 5 but sometimes on special nights he would plan to stay open way late and we would all hang out late and drink pop and play magic. guy could have been a pedophile for all i know. he was missing 2 fingers off of one of his hands. guy ran the cardshop in town in a few different locations all while i was growing up. sometimes his mom would fill in. his name was steve. i think he lived with his mom.

yea, frogstomp.
