Default 2007 Sets

I just saw a vid of them opening with siva at Firenze rocks yesterday. It just felt right. I consider it a flagship pumpkins song. Got me thinking - the first 2.0 performances of siva didn’t go down until the 20th anniversary tour in ‘08. Same with Soma, and I think mayo as well. Also flagship songs.

Do you think if these songs had made the setlist right away in ‘07, along with maybe Geek, that the reunion would’ve gotten less blowback? I sort of think it would have made a difference and mitigated a lot of the stuff people were not happy about. Kinda crazy, because they played a lot of cool shit anyway that tour. Probably would’ve been to their benefit to do add those 3 or 4 songs.

I think it was partially the set and partially bringing back only half the original band

I think you're correct. I loved this tour though, it's probably my favorite of the 30+ shows I've seen.

Before I ramble - I agree. Siva as an opener is a radical choice.

I think the 2007 sets had their moments, for sure - but perfect example - opening with United States is a surefire way to nuke any excitment in the room from a fan who liked SD/MCIS and then shows up and quickly remembers that oh, yeah - there's no James or Darcy - and there's an 11 minute jam thing warming you up.

The 2007 shows really weren't that horrible, though. I enjoyed the few shows I saw that year.

when I saw them in Asheville the first song was TAFH (after the "newly written" acoustic songs). totally blew the crowd up. one of the best, if not the best, show of 2007. i might be a little biased but... i wasn't on any drugs and to me it felt like we were all sharing some kind of consciousness together. i know that doesn't make sense [insert infinite parallel universes quote] but i never felt that type of unity with a whole group of people (anyone really)

Actually yeah. I was looking at that tower theater set and it's got a fucking killer stretch of songs that goes on basically until the end. But that wasn't immediately apparent to me, because even just reading "United States" as the opening song on a printed setlist is a big turn off. It's a shame that relatively minor choices like that threw things off balance.
