i miss my dad always hitting me in the leg with the clutch in pickup truck with the bench seat. it's been my lot of life to always take the middle seat since i'm the smallest/shortest in most groups.

in order to truly test and hone my clutch prowess in the beginning stages of my learning, i would drive out into the country and stop part-way up a steep hill

You had your foot in his footwell under the clutch? That couldn't have been safe.

Just realized you said ford and then I said ford. I can't read. But to add more: I totally agree that there need to be more of these on the market. Even just awd sedans in general... (not an suv person).

i don't think he had what you call a footwell. his truck was an old thing and i just had to do my best to stay scooted out of his way and not bump into my brother on the right.

I think the point is that you don't know what/where the clutch is

Most US car models aren't even offered with a manual transmission anymore. Ford in the USA for example offers only the Fiesta and Focus with a manual, but it's only a tiny fraction now of what they sell. All their other models are autos only. And good luck finding a Ford truck with a manual. NONE of the dealers have them on their lots. I believe you need to have them ordered now from the factory and for the F150 they're only on the fleet work truck version with a base (non turbo) motor

Modern automatics, especially the CVT transmissions, are far more efficient as well. In another 10 years or so cars might not even be offered with manual transmissions. Also, electric cars don't even need a transmission. So no manuals for them ever.

in the late 90s i had an F150 six cylinder work truck with a 5 speed manual. Loved that stupid truck, but it did not drive very well in snow cause it didn't have four wheel drive.

i love my van now more than my last F150, which was a super cab 4x4. The van is easier to park and gets almost 30 mpg.

cars with manual transmissions practically cost more to produce nowadays but they're sold for less in canada... they still charge a premium for the "option" of an automatic transmission.

I'm used to luxury cars. Have you ever heard of a luxury car? Do you know what luxury means? Have you ever heard of Cadillac? Cadillac Eldorado? That's what I drive.

I drive cars that shift themselves. My cars shift themselves. They're luxury cars; they shift themselves.

technically it's the clutch pedal. the clutch is inside the transmission. but everyone calls the pedal the clutch. So they're all wrong
