does facebook weird you out?
facebook weirds me out for a lot of reasons i find hard to articulate well. mostly i think it's that our entire culture has hopped on board this device that totally bounds/guides/facilitates/alters the way we communicate with each other without stopping to think first whether or not it's a good idea. the fact that it's difficult to stop going to/checking is also pretty worrying. and then there's the obvious one--biggest time waster EVER. how many hours have i spent on facebook accomplishing absolutely nothing?
Yeah yeah yeah, it makes it really easy to keep in touch with friends/family you don't see often, and being able to share pictures is nice too. but you can do that through email/IM/telephone/flickr as well, all services that don't... shape (i guess is the word i'm looking for) the essence of our communications so much. thoughts? anyone not have a facebook for these reasons? |

yeah i've been living "off the grid". i see it as a complete invasion of privacy and i think alot of people too involved in social networking (and not just facebook, but generally) are going to regret it down the line. if not already.
that said, not having a facebook has come at the expense of my social life. there's a handful of people I care about that slipped through the cracks, and there's one or two prospective girlfriends that facebook wouldve made easier to communicate with |

The thing that creeps me out about facebook and it's sister websites is the fact that people take whatever is plastered on your page as the complete truth about you. It's fun and easy to bullshit on the internet, but whenever the webpage is facebook, surely everything you say has to be true. That's really weird. I have polluted my fb page with a bunch of funny nonsense, just like I did with my myspace page and just like I do on netphoria with all these stupid posts. But people like employers and friends readily accept even preposterous notions as true if I put them on facebook. In one experiment I was "engaged" to my little cousin and I got so many CONGRATS etc even by my close friends who know damn well if I was really engaged they would have received a phone call and a visit. My ex boyfriend would be obsessed with the relationship status on my page, probably because so many people take this shit as truth and make sure to keep up with everybody's "news." I guess is that essence it does shape the way we communicate.....it seems to ruin everyone's ability to notice obvious lies and suddenly gives the internet credibility (only on this one page though, guys....)

i don't see much difference between here and facebook except i'm interacting with people i actually know on facebook. if you're my friend on there you know my status updates aren't much different than my posts here.
my last two updates... Just did some Salvia. Apparently we are living on the shoelace of a kid riding his bike. Tire will turn in 1 billion years. Your cum is much saltier than I thought it would be. #ThingsIveSaidToMyselfInTheMirror |

if you take it too seriously it is. I get annoyed when people talk about it in real life. Like "blah blah posted blah blah on their facebook and blah blah commented blah" whatever. I travel a lot and it's the easier way to keep in touch with everyone I have met from different countries in one place.
This new thing they do at retail stores when you go to pay is semi creepy I guess.. "find us on facebook =D" uh, ok victoria secret Last edited by Sarcastic Smile : 02-07-2011 at 04:42 AM. Reason: countries not companies.. i hate companies |

It's just a personalized message board. Not really concerning. Some people take boarding way too seriously. Also ilikeplanets, nobody thought it was weird that you would marry your cousin?

i was alright until i started racking up a list of ex's on there
now every time i go on to see who's about for drinks i'm inundated with bullshit about horndogs circling round them and photos of them getting off with guys. I'm a pretty rounded fellow and not one to be all jealous when i break up with a girl, but its not natural for that sort of situation to be a daily occurrence. Part of getting over a girl is the gradual dissociation of all the little things you had together, if theyre all up in your face all the time its never gonna simmer down. Of course i know i can just get rid of them on there, but thats kinda rude. Its cool and we're all friends, and i imagine that they feel the same when they see pictures of me with other people, but it does create severe magpie tendencies in people. I find it a bit of a double edged sword. I think it will get more and more toxic as times pass and more people drift away. Sometimes its good to just cut all ties with people that you only intend to have as a passing acquaintance. And thats not something to feel bad or guilty about. We all move in circles, and sometimes we coexist, sometimes not. |

the one good thing i really like about facebook is the events and invites thing. i have a horrible planning memory so i rely on it to tell me what to do on any given night.

its something that should be passive rather than active. Facebook ruins that. next girlfriend im not adding on facebook just so i have to actively release the chains myself when it doesnt work out. or next girlfriend i need to have a climactic blazing latino style row with... possibly involving objects... but then she'll probably post my dick on facebook or something, and its a double polaroid so it would show up in the feed. see... its got its claws in. |
