I just watched season 6 of OitNB after watching the first five seasons of the Australian show 'Wentworth'. It also takes place in a female prison, and is superior IMO.

Yeah I liked that one, too.

Crazy Rich Asians: C
It was funny enough, enjoyable enough, sentimental enough. It was enough. I might have enjoyed it more than most because I was in a theatre of Singaporeans, who laughed pretty hard at the funny moments, all of which came from the side characters like Peik Lin & family. Jimmy O. Yang was like Jin Yiang all over again but I can't help enjoying that.

Cried during the Mah Jong scene, like actual tears. Sentimental pudding of a human alert

Murder on the Orient Express - C-
Classy cinematography does not make up for overexplaining in silly accents.

The Mountain Between Us - B
Kate Winslet and Idris Elba's plane crashes on a mountain and they have to survive in the wilderness bla bla bla then there's romance bla bla bla. Pretty good because I'm not sure who I have a bigger crush on, Kate or Idris.

The Elephant Man - A
Historical inaccuracy is excused because David Lynch

A Serious Man - B+
A more obscure Coen Brothers film focuses on a physics professor essentially getting rekt for 100 minutes straight. What lacks in plot is made up with typical Coens nuance and humor, as well as accuracy in setting. Also my grandfather who passed away a few days ago was an extra in the bar mitzvah scene.

It's kind of like the feature-length edition of that one scene in No Country For Old Men where Chigurh's in a car crash.

Avengers: Infinity Film Length aka Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.5

Was...fine. This thing is the #37 highest rated film on IMDB though?

Envy - C-
A forgotten Barry Levinson misstep fueled by a lukewarm teaming of Ben Stiller and Jack Black. Although charming and even has potential, it lacks in any sort of significant laughs, as much as I really want it to. Not even a wacky Christopher Walken can save this.

9 to 5 - B+
Classic 1980 workplace comedy in which Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton accidentally sort of kill their sexist asshole boss. Nearly 40 years later, still fresh and interesting how relevant it is today. Not the typewriters and rotary phones though.

Cry-Baby

satire of 50's-type high school musicals, a few big laughs.
nice summer flick, great to watch at an outdoors event.
a young rebel johnny depp teaches a square girl how to french kiss and rock'n'roll.

the french dub is so full of idioms from my 80's movie-watching past.

i felt that some better transitions and plot points could have easily made this far superior.

Sitting through the entirety of MPD Psycho in social circumstances pretty much put me off Miike for life.

Weird as it feels to say so, a remake might be the safer bet.

Kids, Please Shut The Fuck Up (aka A Quiet Place)

Very well-done and effective, though it made sense when I read that it began life as a Cloverfield sequel. Jim also resists the urge to mug at the camera, so that's a plus. Felt like a movie Shyamalan might've made somewhere after Signs or The Village. You know, before he went completely off the rails.

Can't wait for the sequel, Don't Make Me Turn This Car Around.

8/10
