The wrecking ball cover was about the first time in years anyone paid any amount of attention to him aside from the Family Guy mention. I was at the show in Toronto when he first broke it out and the crowd ate it up. Harmless.

Fuck, somehow I totally missed hearing about this. Billy is a jackass and an attention whore. He'd release "Mary Had a Little Lamb" as a single if he thought it would get him huge headlines.

One of their covers is actually one of the main tracks that got me into the band - the one they dropped for fuckin' Stairway to Heaven

Harmless? I went with 5 friends and we are all hardcore Pumpkins fans. We were all pissed. We've each spent spent a lot of money on SP over the years. Is it worth getting clicks online to get a few fleeting fans to look at you while you alienate the true fans who would actually spend real money on your product instead of watching Tonight, Tonight on Youtube once?

SP are a rock band from the 90's. Why is he covering a cheesy pop song from 2013?

This really gets at the root of Billy's struggles. He doesn't give a shit about his true fans unless they worship him and everything he does. He's rather block fans on Instagram when they ask valid questions. He just wants attention. He doesn't seem to care that his songwriting has suffered immensely since Adore/Machina.

Covering Miley Cyrus is just a microcosm of why Billy has faded into obscurity. Same with having Mark McGrath in his stage videos. Yes, it's his choice and he can do whatever he wants, but don't lash out at the media/fans when you get warranted criticism. It just exposes what an asshole he is.

you take music too seriously. I've never understood this kind of don't tarnish my pure artistry thing. the worst part is that the cover sucks and isn't even interesting.

also you are clearly wrong since both the miley cover and the mark mcgrath thing are linked to billy coming back into public consciousness.

covering Miley was pathetic and Billy should be ashamed of stooping to such a low.

I hope you are not a Children of Bodom fan. They are a thrash metal band and covered "Oops I did it Again" by Britney Spears.

old SP covered silly songs a bunch of times. Are we forgetting them doing the fucking joker by steve miller band? OOWWWEEE BABY IMA FUCK YOU GOOD TIME! not taking himself too seriously was one of the appealing things about old Billy which has waned over time. I can't imagine how self-serious and uptight one has to be to be legitimately angry with an old rock guy doing a tongue-in-cheek cover of a bad pop song

I mean I just watched a video of Richard fucking Thompson doing Oops I Did It Again

because covering Miley seemed like a cheap attempt to get into headlines. And Steve Miller Band and BOC are classic rock and still way cooler than that pop trash.

I agree man... It was super lame. He could've at least covered one of Cyrus' good songs, like "The Climb" or some shit! Wrecking ball SUCKS

Yeah, that's what sucked about it for sure. Corgan used to have a good ear for pop songs to cover. Like this, this is fantastic. The original is great too.

It seems like a cheap attempt to get headlines because every single thing he does is obsessively read into here over and over and over and it was news for maybe half a day the next day, who fucking cares

Meanwhile let's pretend none of this ever happened
