Sorry to hear that...I guess pain is good in some ways because you know the tissue is alive and healing. But ouch. It looks like it will be sore for a little while yet...like you had a fair bit done, at once. It also looks weirdly glamorous, at the moment. Very nip/tuck...

if you want to do some reading, this article details a similar Facial Feminization Surgery.

except for some biographical info her experience was very very similar to mine

Wow, that was really long...and hardcore. That surgery is FUCKED UP I mean it's amazing but shit honestly I nearly had a nervous breakdown reading the description of everything that needs to be done. Craniofacial surgeons honestly must have guts of steel. When he took a break and drank a can of coke and ate peanut butter crackers I was like that must be truly the only thing he could force down. He must be running on adrenaline a lot of the time, during surgery. That is some intense shit. I realise it all heals and settles down afterward, and thankfully you don't have to be awake for any of it but when he started the surgery by suturing her eyes shut I was like no, no, I don't think I'm strong enough for this information lol. You must be feeling pretty amazing now in some moments...knowing that you've come through all of that now, and healing has begun. I hope you are. You are amazing to me...

Did you go to the same guy?? Where are you now, are you in a hotel, or have you gone home already?

Sorry if you don't want to answer those questions, that's totally fair enough. I really had no idea how hardcore the procedures were and that you might have had to travel. No wonder you're in pain. I hope it settles and heals quickly...are you taking any supplements like zinc or vit E or anything? Do they prescribe anything?

I was getting a bit teary at the end of the article...realising how much of a difference the surgery makes - just a matter of millimetres, but so life changing. And then I fell down the rabbit hole and looked at the instagram accounts of a few of the names mentioned, like Autumn Reed. One of her posts made me cry:

Quote:
The people around you won't always understand the decisions you make, and they don't have to, but the ones who love you will trust you and accept you for who you are. Don't give up on yourself, especially when you are the only one who believes in you ❤️💪🏼
I don't know if you've seen me mention here that one of my sons has expressed an interest in hormone therapy, from a young age. I try not to make a big deal out of it, either way - just tell him whoever he is, we'll always love him, and he can make all of those decisions for himself when he grows up.

But secretly, as a mother, I can't help but want it to all blow over, so that he never has to struggle with bigots and heartache.

Reading this and seeing your journey has been really challenging for me, but it gives me a lot of hope that things are changing and that life generally speaking is better for trans people, and will continue to improve. I worry so much for my kids, for so many reasons, but I worry for this kid that things will be hard for him and are already hard for him, if he is living with gender dysphoria. It's encouraging to think that the most signifiant thing we can do as parents is be accepting and supportive, because you know, that is one thing that is actually within our control. I mean I can't control how anyone else will react, but at least I can choose how I will. It makes me feel better, somehow.

Thanks so much for sharing... Looking forward to seeing more reveals...

I did not go to that surgeon. it would have cost me $75-$100k if I had. Braley has had a lot of publicity and his fees are ridiculous.

I went to another very well known FSS specialist in Chicago. My surgery cost me, with a week's stay in Chicago, $40k. I had to pay in cash. It's not covered by insurance. But my surgery was very similar to the one in the article. Forehead, jaw, neck, nose, eyes, etc. very very similar.

MY surgery was 11 hours long. he took a lot of bone from my forehead and from around my eyes, my chin and my jaw. He also cut out half of my massetter (jaw) muscle and slightly repositioned my jaw.

The first 4 days following the surgery were some of the worst of my life and I can't even explain how difficult it was. But I got through it. Now I am home in DC, 14 days post op. I"m off work for two more full weeks. I'm also off opiates and only using Ibuproprofren for pain management.

But, my face is still a bit of a mess. One side is much more swollen. My nose is crooked. My lips are crooked. one of my ears is crooked. i can't open my mouth all the way. But from what i keep getting told this is expected and my recover is going well so far.

Vix I PM"d you...

I am too old to have ever had a chance to transition as a child. It's only become the standard of care here in the usa in the past 20 years. but I can say that from the time I started male puberty until last year I wanted to die. and I tried to die over and over. And nobody knew. My parents thought I was a "good kid"

If i had a kid today with a gender dysphoria diagnosis I wouldn't tell them to wait until they're adults. By then you can't erase puberty. And the surgeries you have to go through would mostly be avoidable if treated earlier in childhood with puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

shit I didn't. I was planning to ask him what his thoughts on SP were but he didn't have much time and i didn't want to impose. I mean more than I already did, I also had him sign a cd for my friend.

You see, I already have my signed copy of Benji on vinyl.

I like that album quite a bit. The opening track makes me really wish that he would do a whole record with Will Oldham.

Also, this is cool. I love octopuses and I like how you draw them. I also like the idea of feeling this way

Thanks (:

I actually find octopi incredibly creepy and would appreciate never encountering one, but I did enjoy drawing them.
