Weezer's the one good grunge-rock band from the 90's that managed to stay interesting... Sure there's been some shitty bumps in the road, no one's arguing that, but they've managed to reinvent themselves several times and still say relevant while their peers are cashing checks by playing the same tired hits. I mean honestly, compare Weezer to Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots ETC.

It's 2019 and Weezer is top billing at Rock In Rio without any illegitimate "reunion" scam attached to it. That doesn't happen without maintaining relevancy... Something Billy Corgan can only dream of.

That was a great band, no doubt about it. But we're talking 90's grunge bands. It's a different ball of wax completely

Post-punk GOD Robert Smith, however, knows that Hendrix was fuckin' ace.

this may be the first time in my life i've ever heard of Weezer referred to as a "grunge band"

then again, i don't believe i was familiar with the phrase "indie groundswell" before Zwan thread either, so maybe i'm just not on the right HIP forums

the foxy lady cover does to Hendrix what Devo did to Rolling Stones

make them irrelevant while paying homage =)

Weezer was definitely grunge, at least during their initial run. They often utilized the flagship quiet/loud/quiet/loud structure, tuned down a half step, the feedback guitars, minimalist slacker musicianship

You don't have to have warbly masculine vocals to be grunge.

So you're claiming to score a hit with a cover is a dumb gimmick?

Go through the annals of rock and roll, a lot of the most beloved hits are covers.

While we're discussing Jimi, one of his best songs just so happened to a cover

Africa is phenomenal song. Weezer's rendition was the first time a legion of gen-Z'ers and millenials had even heard the song in their life.

It's a good strategy for a band. Take an already great song, and half the work is already done.

Take David Lee Roth's biggest hit of his solo career... It's a no brainer

Electric Ladyland has some monster guitar, so yeah, someone does care about Hendrix's studio output. it's me. 1983 is one of the greatest rock guitar songs ever written.

I think a lot of people know Hendrix through the over-saturation of his ~4 well known songs and kind of assume they know his deal from that. But Hendrix was an incredibly innovative and imaginative guitarist who did a lot of weird and experimental shit.

Rivers Cuomo is a fucking clown

And they're co-headlining football stadiums next year. People love and are appreciating Weezer more than ever right now. Don't act as though it's some sort of oddity to still be a fan of the group.

Hedrix is great, but it's very blues based music and that kind of genre ain't for everyone

i think my main issue is that i was so enthralled by live footage i've seen of the man that when i got around to the studio albums it was pretty... tame in comparison?

And how dare you call Rivers a clown! sensationalism aside, the guy's definitely one of the best pop songwriters to come out of the 90's

Yeah, I gotta agree with you here.

Sadly, it looks like the Hendrix estate has wiped almost all of the great live footage from Youtube I was looking for some choice clips to show Elphy and they're all gone. I realize all these shows I'm referencing have seen official releases and aren't exactly hard to come by, but it's 2019... Why have em scrubbed on Youtube when it's a great way for the footage and legacy to live on? Odd

you mean we don't get to share music with the dude who said Devo's cover of "Satisfaction" rendered the Stones' entire career irrelevant? what a damn shame!

Elphie's always despised blues rock. We gotta get our boy into some funk, it seems like that could be Elph's next rabbit hole to go down
