Not to say there haven't been innovations, but rather that hip-hop and rap as a societal critique is dead, much like rock and roll decades before.

Point being is that when discussing rap and hip-hop, we have 40 years of history to talk about and you easily get in trouble trying to distill a complex history into one genre.

I don't even know who I'm talking to. Just throwing another chair in the ring, I guess.
Damn man, that was brilliant. There's definitely correlations that exist with rock and rap, but that doesn't mean that the messaging is similar.

We can both agree that Easy E is one of the legends of rap right?

How is this lyrical content reminiscent of the blues in any way?

Couldn't be a foot loop (can't be a fag) so don't get me twisted
Cause in some pussy is the place the be
Always fuckin' is the life for me
Spread them legs open far and wide
Fuck this shit just let me put my dick inside soooooooo
Gimmee that, that, that nutt, that nutt, that nutt,
Gimmee that, Gimmee that, Gimmee that nutt
Gimmee that, that, that nutt, that nutt, that nutt,

Well, would you not say that Notorious BIG is one of the most beloved rap icons?

That is his lyrical content that you seem to be celebrating... To me, that lyricism is absolute rubbish... It's filth

Tell me RBG, when did Howlin Wolf or BB King ever sing about content like this

"Now I love pussy (love pussy)
And pussy loves me (pussy loves me)
Like a lemon to the lime and the bubble to the bee
Ya know its real good a nigga can't resist it (it's real good)
Couldn't be a foot loop, can't be a fag, so don't get me twisted"

I'm gonna tear it down (bed slats and all)
Oh, I'm tearing it right down (bed slats and all)
I'm tearing it down, (bed slats and all)
I'm tearing it down, (bed slats and all)
If I catch another mule kicking in my stall
Papa's gonna tear it down, I mean
Papa's gonna tear it down

Went to my window and my window was drawn
Went to my door and my door was locked
Stepped right back and I shook my head
A big black nigger in my folding bed
Shot through the window and I broke the glass
I never seen a little nigger run so fast
I catch another mule kicking in my stall
Boy, I'm gonna tear it down

"memphis jug band - tear it down - 1930s"

Got something to tell you, make the hair rise on your head
I've got somethin' to tell you, make the hair rise on your head
Got a new way of gettin' down, make the springs tremble on your bed

My gal got a new way of tremblin' down, make a crazy man leave his home
Got a new way of tremblin' down make, a crazy man leave his home
When she grabs you and turns you loose, makes the flesh tremble on your bones

"blind lemon jefferson - bed springs blues - 1929"

the list could go on

Lyrical content actually doesn't matter all that much to me, but in rap it's certainly the focal point.

I more or less care about how different melodies and instrumentation blends together. Vocals for me are just another instrument.

Yeah, but in rap, it's the instrument of focus. I more prefer when music is an amalgamation of textures.

I'm half clowning around. I was listening to the Cypress Hill album with Insane In The Brain on it the other night and it wasn't too bad. But they're one of the groups who actually played the drumbeats and basslines... I'd like more rap if it wasn't all so much computerized nonsense nowadays. I especially find the auto-tune trend to be the worst.
