that's what it seems like is happening. it seems to me that ever since my brother turned 18 he's continued this downward spiral of intense selfish party-mode thing. I don't know... it's just weird. He was a great student in high school, and then all of a sudden the partying started, dropped out of school, and doesn't even TRY to get a decent job anymore (he works about 4 hours a day during the week as a delivery person, basically giving him enough money to just go party and buy fast food for him and his girlfriend occasionally).

If this were all, i'd say it's just kind of a typical thing a lot of post-high schoolers go through. But there are other things about him that have changed and it seems like more than he's just CHOOSING to fuck around for a few years. When you talk to him, or he engages you in conversation, he interrupts before you're finished talking as though to prove he knows what you're going to say already or to change the subject. he does this with everyone he talks to these days, not just me or the parents. Even when he expresses his own thoughts or notions on the world, i can't believe how sheltered and uneducated they seem for someone who has a high school degree and watches TV and listens to music. Like, the other day he goes "What's the difference between democrats and republicans?" He voted for Gore in 2000!!! I didn't think people voted for that guy because he had a winning personality! Then he asked like a month ago what the protesters on the war in Iraq were protesting about when they did a few months ago. You're going to be 21 in 2 months!! I see him watching the news all the time! What the fuck?

It's little things that that come out all the time. His thought processes and ways of reasoning things out are so irrational it makes me think that he has kind of built himself a little world in which he doesn't want to acknowledge life around him. I won't even tell you his justifications for texas's anti-sodomy laws. totally weird. should i suggest therapy, or maybe just a quick slap to the head?

um. That's really strange. He's not taking tons of drugs all the time or anything is he? Not that that would have such an immediate effect on him I don't think :erm. That really sucks, I'm sorry. I'd go for a slap in the head but maybe that's just because I don't care much for therapy.

yeah, it does kinda suck... esp because we used to be really close. I'm afraid it might have something to do with the fact that my mom hasn't been well in a long time and has gotten progressively worse... I know it's harder for guys than girls in situations like that because most of them don't feel free to run to friends to talk about their feelings and whatnot.
