Mapping the tempo of Jellybelly throughout the MCIS tour
This is the nerdiest thing I've ever done
http://i.imgur.com/M2GreBy.jpg I took the tempo from the main riff, the thing that's 0:15 seconds into the studio version. This is the fastest ever (original lineup) Jellybelly: https://archive.org/details/tsp1996-02-29.walkman.ana1 |

In my fantasy, the board is full of content like this, and posts about how much [insert random user here] sucks are banned by active and friendly mods.
I guess in my fantasy the band is also still well-liked and good. |

This is really neat. I didn't actually realize they haven't properly brought out JB live since '97, yikes

It's just interesting from a technical standpoint. SP always likes to speed songs up live (remember that crazy fast Fuck You at the last metro show), and this is probably the most challenging song in the rotation for the MCIS tour (at least for the drums), so it's cool to see the progression throughout the tour

Jesus tap-dancing christ! The kid on bass is blowing it.
Also, Ram27 can you pls share a good quality recording of Matt playing Jellybelly? I don't seem to recall hearing a bootleg with him playing drums on that... my interest is piqued. |

this is the only semi-decent recording: https://archive.org/details/tsp1996-...11-12d1t09.shn Matt kinda cheats the intro here and doesn't play the snare rolls. That's the first recorded version
Here's the last time he did JB: https://archive.org/details/tsp1997-...-01-25t03.flac Played the snare rolls that time |

i think to get an accurate measurement, you should sample the whole song and not just the intro.

JellyBelly is such a fun song to play on guitar, and I say that as someone who mainly plays drums.

I think the ideal would be a BPM graph of the whole song for each date, laid out in a way that ties the beginnings and ends together |

Great work, Ram. This stuff is extremely my shit. I actually came back here to look for your thread on the tab for the live Ruby outro.
I think it's important to note that the fastest ever Jellybelly was at the Bangkok show, the same night Jimmy and Jonathan OD'd for the first time. I think the whole band indulged in something(s) before the show - they play SO fucking fast and Billy is a bit of a space cadet. it's a great show to listen to. also, going into this Jellybelly, Jimmy sounds uncharacteristically... sloppy? out of it? like he's just hitting his snare drum over and over, it's the one Pumpkins show I've heard where Jimmy sounds even just a *little* out of whack, which is remarkable considering what he was up to all those years. |

That's a really good point. I skipped over that part when making this, but yeah, it sounds very uncharacteristic, especially compared to the Gent version from the reissue. Wish the recording was better....around this time they'd start Jelly with Jimmy playing the intro by himself once then the rest of the band joins in...it sounds kinda fucked here, like Billy comes in early or James comes in late or something. and I think this is the only time Jimmy's ever 'cheated' the intro like that, not playing the snare rolls between the accents, but just hitting the snare and crash on the accents
