yeah it's bad. I did this recently. it just sounds like an artist having a complete mental and artistic breakdown and documenting it. the thing about revisiting is that the pain we experienced getting these songs in real time can never be communicated

honestly, some of these songs are more interesting than the current stuff.

the songs themselves, not the production, performances, etc.

This is b4 billy discovered he could just loop 40 seconds over and over (like Dorian)

you know there's other artists you might find spending your time on is more worthwhile

I can't believe that this came after Zeitgeist, what a strange strange strange and inconsistent man.

I'm all for retrospective anniversaries, but if you had just waited another 10 - 12 months, it would have been the Perfect time to create a TBK 10 year anniversary/let's look back and look for the positives of this period ITT.

Funny you say that. I just listened to Lightning Strikes for the first time in probably 8 years and while I still don't like it much, it'd be the 2nd best song on Shiny... And I mean that sincerely. It sorta sounds like a better up-tempo version of Travels.

Spirits in the Sky was pretty good imo, which I in-clude in the TBK era.

In all honesty, Freak and Tom-Tom are pretty good songs. The rest are simply awful though... Compounded by the brutal way that the songs were drip-fed.

I don't mind it, I just don't really consider it SP. I just think of it as BC solo and it's more acceptable then.

I like Song For a Son, zero Pumpkins vibes but quite a nice tune, with a really good guitar solo.

Astral Planes I just like for no reason at all; sometimes you just like things you can't explain. I guess I like the guitar sound, the rhythm, the bongoes, and while the lyrics aren't good the middle 8 is a nice moment.

Freak / Widow / Stitch / Fellowship are all "grand" in my book, I wouldn't rush out to listen to them but if they came on shuffle I would listen to them (well, probably to about half way point ). Spangled and Tom Tom I'm not so fond of, I'd struggle to even hum the melodies.

Lightning Strikes is rather good too, and I'm one of the few who like Owata.

So 5/10 in terms of the music, however 0/10 for a Pumpkins project.

Took and JJ speak the truth. Instead of listening to this complete and utter crud, listen to some live Fleetwood Mac in all their prodigious epic 80's glory

Melodic gold my friends, melodic gold.

At least it was kind of cool that they did a lot of fan friendly things in that era.

This would've been pretty sweet to see

Freak's ok

Tom Tom is an SP2 highlight

Fellowship is one of his better "synth-crazy" tunes, post-TFE (and yes i realize this is a very low bar but hey, i wanted at least 1 more positive)

musically, Freak is Pisces-level. if we had only heard the instrumental, and had some modicum of hope that Bald Baby would stop singing like a cocky hawk, it would be a very exciting thing

“Freak” is cool except for the fact that it’s vaguely about chemtrails or something.

Freaks cool because he was actually rallying for a cause and attempting to do something meaningful...You can tell his heart was in the message and the inspiration came out in the music. That's definitely been missing on a lot of the latest releases.

It's interesting that no one ever calls it "Freak USA" which is what it's called on the E.P... But I NEVER see people refer to it by that.
