i don't love bury me. one of my least favorite gish tunes. I mean, it RAWKS and all, but it doesn't really do anything for me. This and Window Paine are the ones I usually skip.

back to topic, i think bury me and window paine are both build-up songs. they may be ho-hum at the start, but they explode into an awesome solo (bury me) or awesome drumming (window paine) they both just keep reaching higher levels of awesomeness as the song goes on, in a thru the eyes of ruby kinda way
edit: yes i said awesome 3x |

i do like window paine slightly better than bury me, if only for the ending of the song. But I'll talk about that in a few days i guess.

I love Bury Me. As soon as Billy belts out that first "Bury me in love" I'm completely hooked and I'll stop whatever it is I'm doing just to listen to the rest of the song. I love the riff in the outro, too--definitely in my top 5 favorite SP outros.

I love all these songs so far, makes me realize that I like basically every pumpkins song ever. Moreso in their younger days.

Whats NOT to love about Bury Me? Those cracking rim shots. The "Razor" like percussive attack in between the riff? I adore the section when they start to palm mute the riff. So muscular. The whole stop- start dynamic has a real Zeppelin fell to me.
Listen to that snare roll at 2:24. Thats killer. Its a great example of the classic Gish era "bull - shit lyrics". There are lyrics in this song, but more than anything its about the fury of the music. They are there to say 'we want to get up and kick your ass right through your skull with this song, who cares what we have to say". |
