i mean his guitar solo style is comin straight out of hair metal, so much metaphorical tongue wagging even back in the day, but everything else that the pumpkins are is you know a diverse list of great shit, not a generic list of popular metal songs

Ahaha, I pretty much like everything you said there

I just have a complete aversion to anything vaguely metal

Billy Corgan Of The Smashing Pumpkins: 'I'll Piss On F**king Radiohead'

"Do I belong in the conversation about the best artists in the world? My answer is 'yes, I do,'" Corgan told Rolling Stone in 2010.

Sorry Billy. Maybe between '92-98.

I think it is obvious if you dissect his songs, but classic Pumpkins were phenomenal at taking their influences and rearranging those sounds into something that was ostensibly completely unique. I think I just wrote something in another thread about how different SP sounds than any other band pretty much, and I think this is because Corgan so weightlessly lifts elements from many different bands and genres into single songs to an extent that very few other rock musicians achieve. There are songs on Siamese Dream that have Sabbath style rhythm, MBV tone, Van Halen lead, Beatles melodies, and soft sections jammed in that resemble a halfway point between drugged out 60s psychedelia and a Cure instrumental
