That's probably the worst tracklisting possible.

I really like Machina, but I think listening to that would be painful.

It's not that I feel it MUST be 80 minutes. It's just that if I do this, I still wish there were songs I could add, but I don't have space. I wish I could've added (in no order): Try, Try, Try, Soot And Stars, Vanity, Glass' Theme, With Every Light, Lover, Dross

imo: dross is no more than one really cool guitar riff. it's not a very good song. it's a good b-side.

That's all a song really needs.

And that wonderful squealing in the **********.

the single greatest song from the post-Adore era is "Cash Car Star". Don't even get me started on it's exclusion from GH/judas O.

These tracklistings all read like hardcore fan compilation tapes. A commercial release would never have half of the songs listed in this thread.

There's a reason why Machina II was free....and it had nothing to do with not having a record deal.

After careful consideration, here is my dream tracklisting for a Machina edit:

1. In My Body
2. The Crying Tree of Mercury
3. The Sacred + Profane
4. Le Deux Machina
5. Heavy M etal Machine (alternative mix)
6. The Crying Tree of Mercury (live)
7. Le Deux Machina (demo)
8. The Sacred + Profane (live)
9. Billy Taking a Shit
10. The Crying Tree of Mercury (demo)
11. The Crying Tree of Mercury (Puff Daddy remix)
12. Le Deux Machina (demo 2)
13. Billy Taking a Shit (demo)
14. Billy Taking a Shit (spacey version)
15. The Crying Tree of Mercury (acoustic)

That is the ultimate tracklisting...

...for turning people back to Adore for answers. Hehe. Machina blows.

Well, assuming that the aim of any album is to sell copies to more than just hard fans of the band, you have to consider the commercial value of any tracklisting you come up with. I would say there is a difference in compiling your 'ultimate Machina tracklisting' and just making a mix CD of your favourite Machina era songs.

That said I happen to view Machina II (for the most part) as being unmarketable to anybody who isn't really interested in the Smashing Pumpkins. Kind of the polar opposite to the Rotten Apples disc (which included Judas O for the kind of fans who would have been interested in hearing Machina II).

Remember when people were compiling their custom Rotten Apples discs on here? Some were including songs like Window Paine, Geek USA and Soma etc, again losing sight of the point in a 'Greatest Hits' CD and just compiling their favourite tracks like an SP mix CD.

I know Machina wasn't a great commercial success but the choice for a first single kinda makes me think they wanted it to be and how listenable it is to the non-fan needs to be considered if you are seriously trying to compile a good album tracklist.
