James was such a great foil for Billy in interviews. Jimmy was usually completely absent, but James and D'arcy were pretty fucking hilarious. Fuck anyone who says that those two didn't help endear people to the band.

I remember sometime in '97 or '98, James and D'arcy were voted the top two favorite band members in some publication (Billy was not pleased about it).

was expecting at lesat one of them to do something with the "smashing cum-pumpkins" drop but i guess they had enough rednecks on their hands to have time for that

I like how James' answer about doing a double album was totally opposite to Billy's

I like how Billy listed all these metal bands as his influence while James listed The Smiths and The Cure kind of backing up my idea that James kept the band from falling too far into that side of things ie ZG

He also likes playing slide guitar

And his favorite songs to play live are Zero, Hummer, and Snail

solid choices

It's certainly not the first time those accusations have been levied against him.

By the way, when was that "the pumpkin years" thing even written? Billy still occasionally mentions him.
He probably underpaid him so he'd quit. Or throw a fit over it and then he could fire him thinking he had a good reason.

The Pumpkins were about the lush shoegazy thing AND the heavy metal.

Zeitgeist a shit.

so you listen to 100% of "the stuff out there" and Zeitgeist belongs in the 1% of most powerful music. what else is in that 1% category?

I mean good for you or anyone who enjoys Zeitgeist that much, I just don't get why people need to degrade 99% of other music in the same sentence.
it's hilarious, safe guess is nobody here has heard more than 1% of recent releases (including bandcamp and co), let alone 100% of the music "out there."

If what Bob said about how Billy treated him is true (seems like it is) that's messed up. That's no way to treat a friend and shows that Billy has some cutthroat sociopathic tendencies (which we already knew). What an asshole.

oh and i realized i was thinking of the 1995-10-08 interview earlier. sound opinions was a great show from what few shows i've heard. i can see why billy decided to hate these guys though. when did that happen? which derogatis article was it about? the one on machina? i think they (along with everyone else) only gave zwan a 3 or 3.5, some middle of the road rating.

if i remember though in that zwan interview they weren't actually in the studio they made one of the guys come to some remote location i think in an airplane hangar to do the interview w/out derogatis. idk if that was intentional at that point or not but i'm sure it in some ways was if he already hated the guy.

yea okay, fair point.
I just don't understand such a big appreciation for that particular album, at all.
the only powerful feeling I remember getting from the Zeitgeist album tracks, was to turn it off.

anyway. back to the urgent topic - where is bob?

part three of this interview is interesting listening. same things bc is griping about now.

i love how he is so emphatic you can hear him pounding his finger down on the desk.

fan fiction: also at a couple of points Eddie "King" Roeser of urge overkill bursts in and makes some meth references towards billy and billy gets it.

Why was Hippy Kerry fired? Does anyone know or is that still a don't tell/cash rewards situation?

(at this point in my fandom the radio interview where they can't play their newest unreleased album mcis is more interesting than the actual album mcis)

he starts to get really bitchy about the industry at the end of pt 2 and going into 3. typical stuff that sounds like now.

also its interesting to listen to the 10-08 interview vs the 12-03 interview its pretty much the exact same setup but before and after album release.

its easy to see that billy does that thing that a lot of superstars do where, as time goes on, you track them whitewashing origin/history stories to be more and more about themselves/taking more sole credit.
