I feel like it was for more than a couple of weeks that we were treated to Took's running tally of days gone by without weed.
Unless you only mean "sober of alcohol." |

So, this girl whose number I got mentioned working at Swiss Chalet. I've never eaten there (and have no plans to), but I thought I'd Google it as research in hopes of maybe mining some conversational material. I visited their website, and I'm a little confused.
"To dip or to sip?" Are they suggesting that people drink their dipping sauce? On second thought, nobody really likes talking about their job, so ever even coming across this was a mistake. |

Yeah for me sober means no weed. For the past two years, I smoked about three months in total, which is really good for me. I drink around once a week or two weeks these days. Haven't had a cigarette in 16 days!

i dunno if you're going the AA (all or nothing) route that feels punitive (and coincidentally religious) for some, but there are other types of treatment besides sitting in circle, smoking, and swearing off booze night after night with strangers.

And according to AA doctrine, the failure was his alone. When the 12 steps don’t work for someone like J.G., Alcoholics Anonymous says that person must be deeply flawed. The Big Book, AA’s bible, states:
Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path. Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves. There are such unfortunates. They are not at fault; they seem to have been born that way. The 12 steps are so deeply ingrained in the United States that many people, including doctors and therapists, believe attending meetings, earning one’s sobriety chips, and never taking another sip of alcohol is the only way to get better. ...Alcoholics Anonymous has more than 2 million members worldwide, and the structure and support it offers have helped many people. But it is not enough for everyone. The history of AA is the story of how one approach to treatment took root before other options existed, inscribing itself on the national consciousness and crowding out dozens of newer methods that have since been shown to work better. |

AA and the "all or nothing" approach aren't synonymous.
And the God thing is fascinating. As someone trying to get sober I'm finding the entire experience quite mysterious, especially the spiritual/religious aspect of it. AA is obviously a Christian program, but I think most any sobriety system engages significantly with some sort of spirituality/religion. Not sure why/how. Maybe when I figure it out I'll stop wanting to get drunk all the time. But probably not. Thinking about it this way has been helpful to me. When you are an alcoholic, you are feeding your brain the experience of drunkenness day after day. This changes the way you think--think of it as a river of alcohol rushing through your mind, slowly digging a channel into your brain. The longer and harder you've drank, the deeper that channel is, and when you cut off the flow of the booze, it starts to dry out, which is obviously uncomfortable. Your mind is forced to flow outside of that deep habitual channel, into paths and plains it's not used to. But the longer you're sober, your mind will be forced to flow in different (sober) directions, and cut new channels. If you can find some experiences other than boozing that you enjoy (music or writing or family or golf or whatever), you'll be running water through those channels, making them deeper and wider. The alcohol riverbed will never go away, but eventually it wont be as deep as those other experiential rivers, with healthier waters rushing through them all the time. That's what I'm telling myself anyway. |

either you follow the program by abstaining completely lest you have one drink and "relapse". in a lot of alcoholic's minds, there isn't much space between 1 and 10. there is no room for error in AA.
all or nothing is their approach. the approach instills guilt and punishes with self-contempt, which is just too much like religion (and my mother! hey!) for me. i like the idea of there being a God, but fuck organized religion. but if that feels like it might work for you, I'm not taking it away. all i was getting at is: "The history of AA is the story of how one approach to treatment took root before other options existed, inscribing itself on the national consciousness and crowding out dozens of newer methods that have since been shown to work better." |

Good luck ovary. I can empathize and know from experience that your thinking will definitely change, if that's what you want. You've gotta be mentally aligned with whatever you're doing in life, and that makes challenges easier to face.

Either my tolerance is starting to get too strong, to the point where smoking a bowl only gets me a little high and doesn't last that long, compared to what it used to do to me,
or this grass is too mellow for my liking. |

Since hearing about my dad, I've become really open to the idea of trying shrooms some time in the near future. I think it would be a good time.

It might be. I've had many awful trips. It feels like you are losing your mind. If it's your first time, don't take more than a gram or so.
How is your mental state these days? I'd say that's the most important factor to consider. |

Pretty good, overall. I had a somewhat more regressive week last week, but even when I cried for the first time in years into my pillow while listening to Mayonaise, I felt okay, overall. There were things I needed to allow myself to feel, and it made me feel better to feel those things.

I've never had a bad time on mushrooms, but things can get pretty fucking intense. I think knowing how to self soothe is essential with psychedelics, and just accepting the total bizarre nature of them, like don't try to be in control cuz you'll freak out. Have you done anything else that's hallucinogenic?
